Přechod mezi raným a pozdním Wittgensteinem byl však poměrně dlouhý, složitý a nejednoznačný, a v některých bodech vedl blízko konkurenčních filosofických tradic, zvláště fenomenologie. Fragmentární a kryptické Wittgensteinovy texty se vzpírají jednoduchému a jednoznačnému výkladu; i proto ve světě vychází řada interpretačních prací. V našem prostředí dosud systematická výkladová monografie Wittgensteinovi věnována nebyla. Přítomná práce se soustřeďuje právě na tzv. "střední", přechodové období s jeho unikátními "fenomenologickými" intuicemi: na úlohu "fenoménů", které vedou a určují logickou formu jazyka vypovídajícího o světě, na rozbor forem barvy, prostoru a času, které jsou nezbytným předpokladem smysluplné zkušenosti, tj. zkušenosti artikulované smysluplným jazykem, nebo na úlohu situovaného aktéra.
