V úvodní části (Preliminaries) jsou uvedeny některé poznatky z matematické analýzy a funkcionální analýzy, které by měl čtenář znát, než přistoupí ke studiu samotné knihy. Část I má název Theory of Sobolev Spaces (Teorie Sobolevových prostorů). Je rozdělena do 20 kapitol a jsou v ní uvedeny všechny poznatky nutné k porozumění matematické teorie metody konečných prvků a případné práci v této teorii. Část II, i když nese název Basic applications of the theory of Sobolev spaces in the finite element method (Základní aplikace teorie Sobolevových prostorů v metodě konečných prvků), obsahuje v kapitole 26 důkaz nejobtížnější věty uvedené v knize. Část III Variational problems in bad domains (Variační problémy ve špatných oblastech) obsahuje některé autorovy výsledky o metodě konečných prvků v dvojrozměrných oblastech, jejichž hranice mají tzv. body vratu. Část IV Variational problems in the case of parabolic-elliptic equations (Variační problémy v případě parabolicko-eliptických rovnic) obsahuje některé autorovy výsledky, které mají aplikace v kvazistacionárních problémech elektromagnetických polí, zejména v teorii točivých elektrických strojů Část V Semiregaular finite elements (Semiregulární konečné prvky). V této kapitole jsou probírány některé aspekty tzv. semiregulárních prvků, kdy v případě trojúhelníkových prvků je splněna pouze podmínka maximálního úhlu, podle kterého největší úhel trojúhelníku se nesmí blížit k ?. To znamená, že trojúhelníky mohou mít jeden úhel libovolně malý. Mimořádné číslo Perception in Scholastics and Their Interlocutors přináší osm studií zkoumajících problematiku vnímání a smyslů v dějinách filosofie mezi 11. a 17. stoletím. Pozornost je zaměřena především na scholastické myslitele (od Anselma přes Petra Oliviho a Dunse Scota až po Suáreze), některé starší autory, jejichž myšlení scholastikové rozvíjeli (např. Aristotelés či Alhacen), případně současníky, kteří se scholastiky vcházeli do dialogu (např. Plethón či Valerián Magni). Soubor předložených studií si klade za cíl zpochybnit učebnicové představy o scholastice jako myšlenkově více či méně homogenní tradici, která je založena na rozvíjení aristotelského dědictví. Byť aristotelismus samozřejmě má mezi scholastiky významné postavení, na autory zkoumaného období mají silný vliv také platónská a augustinovská myšlenková tradice. V rámci jednotlivých příspěvků (a někdy i v myšlení jednotlivých autorů) je čtenář svědkem prolínání i vzájemného soupeření aristotelských i platónsko-augustinovských východisek a myšlenek. Z typických rysů platónské a augustinovské tradice jsou zmíněny např. důraz na roli pozornosti při vnímání, extramisní chápání zraku, metafyzika světla, teorie iluminace, důraz na perspektivu první osoby a sebe-reflexi. Z témat, která akcentuje spíše aristotelská tradice, je rozebrána ontologie vnímatelného předmětu a jeho kauzalita, role prostředí, či rozdíl mezi tzv. vnitřními smysly a jejich možné klasifikace.
