On a jeho spolupracovníci, kteří spolu s ním strávili na Pražském hradě celé desetiletí, lépe než mnozí jiní vědí, jaký je skutečný obsah prezidentské funkce, její kompetence, možnosti, limity a celkové zasazení v ústavním systému republiky. Prezidentská volba nás proto mimořádně zajímala, ale současně nás naše zkušenost vedla k tomu, že jsme na ni nenahlíželi jen z perspektivy souboje konkrétních kandidátů. Snažili jsme se přispět k racionální interpretaci voleb, které mediální a politický mainstream vykresloval jako zápas dobra se zlem, demokracie s populismem, Východu se Západem. Nic není realitě vzdálenějšího. Články v tomto sborníku vznikaly v rozmezí dvou měsíců do prezidentských voleb. Řazeny jsou chronologicky a ilustrují tak postupné rozbíhání kampaně i souvisejících událostí. Po provedené volbě jsme je nemuseli přepisovat. Netýkaly se zdaleka jen prezidentské volby, ale i témat obecných, kterým se náš institut dlouhodobě věnuje. Volbami nic neskončilo, i když bylo mnohé, co v normální době nebylo tak jasně vidět, velmi zřetelně odkryto.
