Je také čestným generálním ředitelem multidisciplinárního Centra pro studium obyvatelstva a rodiny (CBGS) v Bruselu, což je vlámský vládní vědecký institut, kde se podílí na výzkumu zaměřeném na reprodukční chování a další otázky spojené s populační politikou. Od roku 1999 pracuje jako poradce Ústavu pro populaci a sociální politiku (PSPC) v Bruselu. Roku 2002 začal spolupracovat s Fakultou sociálních studií Masarykovy univerzity na komparativní studii populační politiky, po níž následoval projekt zkoumající integraci žen-imigrantek. Od roku 2008 zde jako hostující profesor přednáší na téma sociální biologie v procesu modernizace. Profesor Cliquet je autorem téměř dvou stovek odborných článků a několika knih zabývajících se tématem populace, rodiny a populační politikou na globální i regionální úrovni.
