Kocáb popisuje všechna zásadní jednání s komunistickými vládci, s generalitou československé i sovětské armády, se sovětskou stranou včetně zástupců KGB, která vedl či se jich účastnil za iniciativu MOST nebo Občanské fórum. Průběh sametové revoluce líčí na pozadí připravované akce Zásah, kterou se armádní složky ve spolupráci s StB snažily zabránit demokratizačním změnám silou. Autobiografický text působí trochu jako politický thriller. Autor popisuje, jak se situace měnila den po dni, hodinu po hodině, a ukazuje, že politika je tvůrčí a často i improvizační činnost, v níž občas není od věci brát na sebe „drzou“ odpovědnost.
