During this period, Firbas compares his conception of a functional sentence perspective with other approaches to information structure and focuses on deeper research into biblical texts. The Collected Early Poems of Ezra Pound contains the complete text, the poet's first six books, their title pages in facsimile (A Lume Spento, 1908; A Quinzaine for This Yule, 1908; Personae, 1909; Exultations, 1909; Canzoni, 1911; Ripostes, 1912), and the long poem Redondillas (1911), for many years available only in a rare limited edition. There are, in addition, twenty-five poems originally published in periodicals but not previously collected, as well as thirty-eight others drawn from miscellaneous manuscripts. Ezra Pound's 1926 collection, entitled Personae after his earlier volume of that name, was his personal choice of all the poems he wished to keep in print other than some translations and his Cantos. It was intended to be the definitive collection of his shorter poems, and so it should remain. Yet even the discarded works of a great poet are of value and interest to students and devotees. Originally, brought out clothbound by New Directions in 1976, the texts were established at the Center for the Study of Ezra Pound and His Contemporaries of The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University. They were edited by Michael King under the direction of Louis L. Martz, who wrote the introduction, and Donald Gallup, formerly Curator of American Literature. Ve druhé polovině 40. let 20. století, kdy Miloslav Ištvan začal studovat kompozici na Janáčkově akademii múzických umění, se nálada v Evropě stále nesla na vlně určitého poválečného optimismu. Československo se vynořilo z destruktivního zmatku II. Světové války v politickém chaosu, z něhož vzešli vítězně komunisté. Jejich vize budování lepších zítřků a antifašistická rétorika nadchly velkou část tehdejší společnosti. Ištvan byl v té době silně inspirován folklorem své země, přičemž silný vliv na jeho tvůrčí růst mělo také studium partitur a poslech prací Janáčka, Bartóka a Prokofjeva. V průběhu 50. let se Ištvan ponořil pod povrch mladického nadšení a začal experimentovat s vlastním hudebním jazykem. Později, v 60. letech skladatel zformuloval tyto inovace do jedinečného teoretického systému „Metoda montáže izolovaných prvků v hudbě“, čímž prohloubil rozpor mezi vlastním stylem a oficiálními požadavky „socialistického realismu“. Po sovětské invazi do Československa v roce 1968 zažíval Miloslav Ištvan silnou deziluzi, která se ještě prohloubila ve schizofrenním období normalizace. Byla to paradoxně autorova částečná společenská izolace, která mu umožnila udržet uměleckou a osobní integritu. Neporušená integrita, kreativní mysl, instinkt jasného hudebního projevu a talent pro dramatickou bezprostřednost…to jsou kvality, které až do dnešních dnů rezonují v Ištvanově tvorbě a udržují tak její potenciál a přitažlivost stále živou. Hlavními tématy česko-anglické publikace jsou sledovací útvary Statní bezpečnosti a fotografie historických osobnosti, významných událostí a míst, které v období komunistického režimu pořídili jejich pracovnici. The present Czech-English publication publication focuses on the State Security (StB) Surveillance Administration and photographs of notable personalities, important events and places taken by its employees during the Communist regime. For example, the surveillance operations of the State Security against Vaclav Havel, Pavel Kohout, Jan Patočka, Cardinal František Tomašek, František Kriegel, Jan Werich and Western diplomats are presented here. The structures of the Surveillance Administration, its staff, commanders and collaborators are also described, and the service career of Antonin Kavan, who headed the StB Surveillance Administration for several decades, is presented. Further to this, attention is paid to the intelligence technologies used by the StB Surveillance Administration. Last but not least, the secret locations (‘footholds') from which the secret police monitored selected people and events are described here. The publication is based on the open-air exhibition organised jointly by the Twentieth Century Memorial Museum and Museum Kampa in cooperation with the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, the Security Forces Archive and Prague City Tourism.
