Edice je výslednou publikacní projektu Grantové agentury ČR č. 409/09/0951 a představuje více jak 175 dokumentů z českých archivů, které ilustrují vývoj státní politiky vůči polské menšině na Těšínsku během prvních poválečných let. Jednalo se období, které má pro dějiny národnostních poměrů na Těšínsku velký význam. Vztahy mezi Čechy a Poláky byly v tomto regionu napjaté nejen kvůli událostem v nedávné minulosti, ale také kvůli sporům mezi ČSR a Polskem o Těšínsko, který se v roce 1945 znovu rozhořel. V současné době, kdy je tak trochu v módě studium poválečného odsunu sudetských Němců, se přitom zapomíná, že v podobné situaci jako sudetští Němci se nacházeli i Poláci na Těšínsku. I oni byli viněni z podílu na zániku předválečného Československa a česká společnost je chápala jako neloajální národnostní menšinu. Z řady důvodů však nebylo možné s Poláky zacházet stejně jako se sudetskými Němci, nepodařilo se realizovat ani plán odsunu části Poláků z Těšínska. Nedůvěru Československa k Polákům znásobovaly nároky Polska na Těšínsko, hodně zlé krve nadělaly rovněž následky nacistické národnostní politiky (otázka tzv. volkslist). Dodatkový protokol k československo-polské spojenecké smlouvě z března 1947 nakonec ale donutil československou stranu, aby Polákům poskytla jistá menšinová práva, avšak o návratu k stavu před druhou světovou válkou nemohlo být ani řeči. Postoj k polské menšině se na Těšínsku výrazným způsobem promítal rovněž do politického boje mezi komunisty a ostatními stranami Národní fronty - zvláště národními socialisty, kteří narozdíl od komunistů odmítali Polákům poskytnout jakákoli menšinová práva s odvoláním na jejich neloajalitu k ČSR na sklonku třicátých let. Avšak ani komunisté nehodlali překročit jistou mez a i oni se bránili poskytnutí příliš širokých menšinových práv Polákům na Těšínsku. Dokumenty pocházející jak z centrálních, tak i regionálních archivů jsou opatřeny poznámkovým aparátem a edici uvádí vstupní studie o česko-polských vztazích na Těšínsku těsně po druhé světové válce. Edice by měla sloužit nejen badatelům, kteří se zabývají problematikou historie polské menšiny na Těšínsku, ale také všem historikům zkoumajícím národnostní politiku poválečného Československa.
