Příběh vykazuje mnohé autobiografické prvky, někdy fiktivně rozvíjené aje rozdělen do čtyř dílů: Ithaka, Troja, Zbytek světa a Znovu Ithaka. Je většinou vyprávěn ve třetí osobě a hlavním hrdinou je Odysseus. Chvílemi ale vyprávění přechází z er-formy do ich-formy, čímž je naznačeno, že protagonista je vlastně za Odyssea převlečený či obnažený autor, chvílemi možná někdo jiný. V románu se objeví i Joyceova "dublinská osnova", zcela v pozadí zůstává Homér. Odysseus filosofuje a létá aeroplánem jako Saint-Exupéry, jindy se podle Rostandových návodů v Cyranovi pokouší dostat na Měsíc, který čarovně rytmizuje moře i ženy, včetně té jeho.Brikciův příběh je postaven na nové nepředmětné interpretaci starého mýtu. Jediné, co lze podle slov samotného autora garantovat, je zmíněný nemýtický průběh děje se "starozákonním" otevřeným závěrem.Tímto si autor také do jisté míry zajišťuje prostor pro další možný autobiografický projekt. Nepředmětná Odyssea je totiž jakýmsi volným pokračováním Brikciových pamětí, které nakladatelství Pulchra vydalo před pěti lety pod názvem Můj nejlepší ... Unknown localization key: "more"
