Dávno je známo, že Rasputin nebyl ani mnich ani šílený. Byl to prostě člověk, který vládl jistými schopnostmi, které ostatní lidi uváděli v úžas. Byl to člověk, který měl rád ženy a který jich dovedl ovládat a využít pro své cíle. V roce 1916 je Rusko vyčerpané účastí v I. světové válce. Na frontách již zemřelo více jak půldruhého milionu ruských vojáků, v zemi je hlad. Rasputin nesouhlasí s účastí Ruska ve válce a je odhodlán využít své, byť neoficiální a neinstituované, moci k ukončení účasti Ruska ve válce a k uzavření separátního míru s Německem. 30.prosince 1916 je na Rasputina spáchán atentát skupinou ruských aristokratů, kteří si nepřejí, aby Rusko opustilo své spojence. Hlavní osobou zapletenou do atentátu je kníže Felix Felixovič Jusupov, význačný příslušník nejvyšší ruské šlechty a člen carské rodiny. Jaké však bylo skutečné pozadí atentátu? Kdo měl na atentátu zájem kromě Jusopova a jeho společníků? Kdo byl skutečným vrahem? Romanovci 17. července 1918 v Jekatěrinburgu, v domě, který zkonfiskovali obchodníkovi Ipatijevovi, zavraždili bolševici carskou rodinu a jejich personál – bývalého cara Mikuláše II., jeho manželku carevnu Alexandru a pět jejich dětí: dvaadvacetiletou Olgu, dvacetiletou Taťánu, osmnáctiletou Marii, šestnáctiletou Anastázii a následníka trůnu, careviče Alexeje, jemuž bylo teprve čtrnáct let. S nimi byli zavražděni komorná Demidová, lékař Dr. Botkin, komorník cara a kuchař. Vražda byla provedena na příkaz V. I. Lenina, Trockého a Sverdlova – nejvyšších představitelů bolševického Ruska. Průběh vraždy, při které byly oběti brutálně mláceny, mučeny a zohaveny a jejich majetek rozkraden, je poměrně dobře zdokumentován. Zdokumentováno je i to, co se dělo s těly zavražděných – těla byla rozsekána sekyrami, polita kyselinou a benzínem a zapálena. Deset dní po vraždě Jekatěrinburg osvobodili československé legie a ruští kozáci věrní prozatímní vládě a zahájili vyšetřování vraždy za předsednictví krajského vyšetřujícího soudce v Omsku, Sokolova. Co však chybělo, bylo nalézt ostatky carské rodiny, identifikovat je a důstojně pohřbít. A také odhalit některá neznámá fakta o tom, jak na uvěznění carské rodiny reagovali jejich příbuzní a současně spojenci – britská královská rodina.

The Fairbairn-Sykes Commando dagger has become iconic as the most widely recognized fighting knife in the world. The origins of the dagger can be traced to Shanghai in the 1930s where W. E. Fairbairn and US Marine officers including Sam Yeaton carried out experiments to develop what they considered the perfect knife for close combat. When Fairbairn and Sykes became instructors for the Commandos, they refined the design which would evolve into the classic Fairbairn-Sykes dagger. The dagger was first used during early Commando raids into occupied Europe but saw action in every theatre of World War II. US Rangers and Marines who had trained with the Commandos took their Fairbairn-Sykes daggers home, and this also influenced the development of American Special Forces daggers.
