Zapisuje se na přednášky z předmětů, o nichž nikdy předtím neslyšela, spřátelí se s charismatickou a světaznalou srbskou spolužačkou Světlanou a tak trochu náhodou si začne dopisovat s Ivanem, maďarským studentem matematiky z vyššího ročníku. Ačkoliv ve škole Selin s Ivanem téměř nepromluví, s každým e-mailem, který si mezi sebou vymění, to vypadá, jako by se v samotném aktu psaní skrývaly vždy nové a stále tajemnější významy. Když je školní rok u konce, Ivan odjíždí na léto do Budapešti a Selin míří na maďarský venkov, kde učí angličtinu v kurzu organizovaném jedním z Ivanových kamarádů.
