V poslední fázi říše se množí legendy oslavující vítěze císařů, slávu Římanů, bezpečnost státu, obnovu státu, zdraví státu a concordie císařů s vyobrazením Říma na trůně a se symboly moci. Typy a legendy na mincích nás informují o sociálních a náboženských změnách, které proběhly ve struktuře římské říše v době od Konstantina Velikého a dále. Byzantské mince a mince vyráběné Ostrogóty v Itálii v posledním století výroby mincí před krizí, která v západní části starého římského impéria způsobí zmizení mince, se prakticky od mincí římských neliší.
