eBook: Je velkým problémem sbírek archeologické či historické povahy, nejenom mincí, pokud nejsou publikační formou prezentovány odborné veřejnosti. Prezentovat skupinu mincí zveřejněných v tomto katalogu znamená nejen je chránit jako veřejný majetek jedné konkrétní univerzity, ale dát je k dispozici celé vědecké společnosti a tím umožnit pokrok v oblasti historických a numismatických studií. V práci Federica Gambacorty lze proto uvítat významné rozšíření publikovaného numismatického materiálu ve vlastnictví Univerzity Karlovy. Tato práce důstojně navazuje na dílo V. Marka, který před více než čtvrtstoletím podnikl první krok k publikaci univerzitní mincovní sbírky. Oproti původnímu rozhodnutí věnovat se pouze pozdně římským mincím autor do svého zpracování zahrnul rovněž mince byzantské a barbarské. Tento katalog seznamuje publikum se skupinou mincí, které byly samy o sobě hlavními postavami a svědky doby, kdy byly vytvořeny. Mince narozdíl od jiných kategorií objektů byla používána na všech společenských úrovních a všude dokázala předat srozumitelné informace i těm, kteří neuměli číst. Typy a legendy na mincích nás informují o sociálních a náboženských změnách, které proběhly ve struktuře římské říše v době od Konstantina Velikého a dále. Byzantské mince a mince vyráběné Ostrogóty v Itálii v posledním století výroby mincí před krizí, která v západní části starého římského impéria způsobí zmizení mince, se prakticky od mincí římských neliší.
