Prepare yourself for one of the most epic eras in the history of Namor, the Sub-Mariner, written and drawn by his creator, Bill Everett! We are proud to present Bill Everett''s seminal ''70s return to Namor, the Sub-Mariner, the character that he made a legend! Everett''s luxuriant artwork and signature anarchic take on Namor make every page an action-packed classic. Villains from Subby''s past like Prince Byrrah set the stage while the debut of Namorita and a new flame-vs.-water nemesis, Sunfire, ratchet up the drama. The return of another Everett icon, Venus, pits the Sub-Mariner against the god Ares, while the capture of Subby''s alien ally, Tamara, leads to an all-out Atlantean invasion of New York City! Then, a nerve gas explosion leaves Namor unable to defend his realm. Reed Richards crafts a new costume to help him fight again, and nothing will be able to contain the rage of the now savage Sub-Mariner! Sonnets for a Missing Key - Percival Everett
AUTHOR OF THE PULITZER PRIZE AND NATIONAL BOOK AWARD WINNER, JAMES AUTHOR OF ERASURE, now adapted for the screen as the OSCAR-WINNING FILM, AMERICAN FICTION Percival Everett is diving back into poetry with his spellbinding new collection, SONNETS FOR A MISSING KEY “Few writers pay more rapt attention to the fact that history is, fundamentally, storytelling. … A pebble in every shoe. It’s the Everett way.”—New York Times Inspired by the Preludes of Chopin and the piano solos of Art Tatum, these sonnets leap and turn through philosophical musings accrued across a life well lived, with inventive language, crystalline imagery, and turns of phrase that lift off the page and glimmer. Everett’s sonnets soar through the musical scale, from A Minor to A Major, exploring relationships, spirituality, compassion, despair, and how the stories we tell ourselves shape our realities. Everett continuously defies convention with every creative expression and brings his literary audacity back to his poetic roots with this, his sixth collection with Red Hen Press. Sonnets for a Missing Key is a mesmerizing feat of language that reinforces Percival Everett as one of the great wordsmiths of the century.

The U-Boat War - Lawrence Paterson
A unique perspective of the global history of U-boats during the entirety of the Second World War by Lawrence Paterson, one of the world’s leading U-boat experts. The accepted historical narrative of the Second World War predominantly assigns U-boats to the so-called ‘Battle of the Atlantic’, almost as if the struggle over convoys between the new world and the old can be viewed in isolation from simultaneous events on land and in the air. This has become an almost accepted error. The U-boats war did not exist solely between 1940 and 1943, nor did the Atlantic battle occur in seclusion from other theatres of action. he story of Germany’s second U-boat war began on the first day of hostilities with Britain and France and ended with the final torpedo sinking on 7 May 1945. U-boats were active in nearly every theatre of operation in which the Wehrmacht served, and within all but the Southern Ocean. Moreover, these deployments were not undertaken in isolation from one another; instead they were frequently interconnected in what became an increasingly inefficient German naval strategy. This fascinating new book places each theatre of action in which U-boats were deployed into the broader context of the Second World ... The Surrender of the U-Boat Fleet 1945 - Derek Waller
In the weeks after the end of the War in May 1945, 156 U-boats surrendered to the Allies. Some of these either surrendered at sea or directly in a variety of ports, whilst the majority were taken over whilst moored in German bases in Norway, Denmark and France. Nine gave themselves up in the USA, Canada and Argentina. This book provides a comprehensive record of the surrender of all these vessels, and it also includes the story of the 200 or so U-boats which were scuttled, rather than surrendered, in the final days of the War. And it includes details of others which have been raised since and then either been used or scrapped. The author begins by describing the development of Allied policy in 1943, 1944 and early 1945 for the surrender and disposal of the German Navy and its surviving U-boats. It then explains the surrender arrangements, as well as the discussions concerning U-boats at the Potsdam Conference in July 1945 and by the Tripartite Naval Commission (TNC) in Berlin between August and December 1945. The uses and fates of all the surrendered U-boats are then described, particularly those which were formally allocated to the UK, the USA ... Unknown localization key: "more"

Birmingham's First Canal 1730-1772 - Ron Dawson
The development of Birmingham into a major modern industrial city can be said to have begun in 1772 with the opening of its first canal. At that time Birmingham was a small and largely rural town with a growing manufacturing base. The growth of manufacturing within the town, however, was severely constrained by the lack of a cheap, reliable and efficient means of transport for the goods it produced. These difficulties were largely overcome by the building of the canal, in that it provided a cheap and efficient means of transport to convey the town's manufactured goods to markets beyond its boundaries. The why, when and how this first canal came to be built is explored in this detailed and highly referenced account. It tells the fascinating story of how a small group of innovative, determined and ambitious entrepreneurs joined together to plan and secure its construction, and thereby also secure the City's future progress and prosperity.

The U-Boat Commanders - Jeremy Dixon
The Knight''s Cross (Ritterkreuz) was one of the highest decorations given for extreme acts of valor to all ranks of the German armed forces during World War II. Few awards captured quite the respect and admiration of the German public as the Knight''s Cross—it was the greatest honor one could achieve. In all there were 123 recipients in the U-boat arm including its commander-in-chief Karl Dönitz. Jeremy Dixon''s highly illustrated book is the ideal guide to all these men and their wartime service. Full details are given of their tours of duty the operations they took part in how they won their award how many ships they sank and their subsequent careers.

Sheila Fell - Dr Eleanor Bradley, Professor J Andrew Bradley
Sheila Fell (1931-1979) was one of the most talented British artists of her generation: a figurative painter with a singular and powerful vision of the Cumbrian landscape of her childhood. Here, for the first time, the full breadth of her artistic achievement is recorded in a catalogue raisonné of her paintings. The book features 471 expertly researched catalogue entries alongside a substantial art-historical narrative that charts Fell's entire career and provides unique insights into the artist's background, inspirations, technique and legacy. As such, and in the context of the dearth of recent literature on the painter, this invaluable resource will stand as the definitive publication on Sheila Fell for many years to come.

The Artificial Silk Girl - Keun Irmgard, Kathie von Ankum
In 1931, a young writer named Irmgard Keun was inspired by Anita Loos''s Gentlemen Prefer Blondes to describe pre-war Berlin and the age of cinematic glamour through the eyes of a woman. The resulting novel, The Artificial Silk Girl, became an acclaimed bestseller and a masterwork of German literature, in the tradition of Christopher Isherwood''s Berlin Stories and Bertolt Brecht''s Three Penny Opera. Like Isherwood and Brecht, Keun revealed the dark underside of Berlin''s ''golden twenties'' with empathy and honesty. Unfortunately, a Nazi censorship board banned Keun''s work in 1933 and destroyed all existing copies of The Artificial Silk Girl. Only one English translation was published, in Great Britain, before the book disappeared in the chaos of the ensuing war.
