O několik desetiletí později se Dan vrací do Vietnamu se svou manželkou Lindou. Doufá, že si tak zahojí staré rány a vyřeší i svá tajemství z minulosti. Ve stejné době se Phong, syn afroamerického vojáka a Vietnamky, snaží se svou ženou a dvěma dětmi dostat do USA, kde by rád rodině zajistil lepší život. Sám vyrůstal v sirotčinci, na nějž nemá právě dobré vzpomínky. Byl přece synem nepřítele. Dítětem prachu. Autorka osudy svých postav umně proplétá a postupně čtenáři odkrývá dříve neznámé souvislosti. Protagonisty nechává zpětně čelit rozhodnutím, která učinili za války, a najít to, co je spojuje navzdory rozdílné rase, kultuře či jazyku. Nguyen Phan Que Mai se narodila roku 1973 v Severním Vietnamu, a když jí bylo šest let, přesídlila s rodinou na jih. Pracovala jako pouliční prodejkyně i na rýžových polích. Poté získala stipendium a studovala v Austrálii. Získala doktorský titul v oboru tvůrčího psaní na Univerzitě v Lancasteru. Dlouhodobě se věnuje podpoře vzdělávání mladých dívek a působí jako mírová ambasadorka organizace PeaceTree Vietnam, která pomáhá likvidovat nevybuchlé bomby ve Vietnamu. V současnosti žije střídavě v Kyrgyzstánu a ve Vietnamu. Je autorkou dvanácti knih básnických sbírek a kratší prózy, za něž se jí v rodné vlasti dostalo mnoha ocenění. Její díla byla přeložena a vydána ve více než dvanácti zemích. Její debutový román – a zároveň také první anglicky psaná kniha – Hory zpívají se dočkal vřelého čtenářského přijetí i několika literárních cen. V roce 2023 vydala druhou knihu Dítě prachu. MgA. Michaela Danielová - vystudovala Janáčkovu akademii múzických umění, obor muzikálové herectví. Po absolutoriu nastoupila do Divadla Radost.
