Tímto obdobím svého života se zabývá Raissa Maritainová v přítomné knize (1949), považované za její nejvýznamnější dílo. Vzpomíná v něm na své dětství v Mariupolu, emigraci do Francie, studia, na své odborné působení, konverzi ke katolictví, na přátele, kteří ji v životě provázeli, a na společný život s manželem Jacquesem Maritainem (1882-1973).
