Iný zdroj informácií uvádza, že ho zastrelila NKVD. Za socializmu v období tzv. Poľskej ľudovej republiky sa jeho knihy nesmeli vydávať a boli stiahnuté aj z knižníc. Červený šašo je pokladaný za prvý poľský kriminálny román. Roku 1926 ho dokonca sfilmovali, no film sa nedochoval, len niekoľko fotografií.
