Předkládaný výbor obsahuje texty z let 1998 až 2013; jde jak o samostatně publikované studie, tak o kapitoly z několika Piotrowského knih. Autor v nich tematizuje mocenské, zejména geopolitické vztahy, v nichž umění vzniká a v nichž se píší i jeho dějiny. Odmítá nekritické přejímání západní perspektivy, ať již ve vztahu k bývalému sovětskému bloku, nebo dalším světovým periferiím a marginalizovaným kulturám.
