Zdůrazňuje v nich pomíjivost lidského bytí, neustálou změnu, vznik a zánik, a odvolává se na princip přirozenosti, na předurčenost všech živých bytostí a jejich rovnost. Hovory k sobě patří k nejúspěšnějším titulům Antické knihovny, v klasickém překladu Rudolfa Kuthana zde vycházejí již potřetí.
