Love Letter to the Earth - Thich Nhat Hanh
The world-renowned Zen monk argues for a more mindful, spiritual approach to environmental protection and activism—one that recognizes people and planet as one and the same While many experts point to the enormous complexity in addressing issues ranging from the destruction of ecosystems to the loss of millions of species, Thich Nhat Hanh identifies one key issue as having the potential to create a tipping point. He believes that we need to move beyond the concept of the “environment,” as it leads people to experience themselves and Earth as two separate entities and to see the planet only in terms of what it can do for them. Thich Nhat Hanh points to the lack of meaning and connection in peoples’ lives as being the cause of our addiction to consumerism. He deems it vital that we recognize and respond to the stress we are putting on the Earth if civilization is to survive. Rejecting the conventional economic approach, Nhat Hanh shows that mindfulness and a spiritual revolution are needed to protect nature and limit climate change. Love Letter to the Earth is a hopeful book that gives us a path to follow by showing that change is possible only with the recognition that people and the planet are ultimately one and the same.

Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet - Thich Nhat Hanh
NATIONAL BESTSELLERA vital approach to combating climate change and creating a better world for us and our future generations—from beloved Buddhist and environmental activist Thich Nhat HanhWe face a potent intersection of crises: ecological destruction, global warming, inflation, rising inequality, racial injustice, and the lasting impacts of a devastating pandemic. As shown time and time again, the situation is beyond urgent. To face these challenges, we need to find ways to strengthen our clarity, compassion, and courage to act. As beloved Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh said, “When you wake up and you see that the Earth is not just the environment, the Earth is us, you touch the nature of interbeing.”He is blazingly clear: there’s one thing we all have the power to change, which can make all the difference, and that is our mind. Our way of looking, seeing, and thinking determines every choice we make, the everyday actions we take or avoid, how we relate to those we love or oppose, and how we react in a crisis. This book is for anyone who cares about the growing and devastating impacts of climate change, mindful consumption, how human and nature’s interconnectedness is paramount for the well-being of all humanity, and creating a better, regenerative world for us future generations.Energetic and altruistic, and filled of Thich Nhat Hanh’s inspiring meditations, Zen stories and experiences from his own activism, Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet shows us individual actions help guide institutional change, and bring healing and harmony to ourselves, our relationships, and our planet Earth.

At Home In The World - Thich Nhat Hanh
This collection of autobiographical and teaching stories from peace activist and Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh is thought provoking and inspiring. Collected here for the first time, these stories span his life. There are stories from his childhood and the traditions of rural Vietnam. There are stories from his years as a teenage novice, as a young teacher and writer in war torn Vietnam, and of his travels around the world to teach mindfulness, make pilgrimages to sacred sites and influence world leaders. The tradition of Zen teaching stories goes back at least to the time of the Buddha. Like the Buddha, Thich Nhat Hanh uses story-telling to engage people s interest so he can share important teachings, insights and life lessons.

As a child, he played in its shadow and explored the little world within the camp. As he grew older, he began questioning the boundaries that limited his existence.Later, sentenced to life in prison, with no hope of parole, he found himself surrounded by a physical wall. This is the story of how, over thirty years in captivity, he crafted a new definition of freedom. Turning to writings by philosophers as varied as Derrida, Kirkegaard and Freud, he begins to let go of freedom as a question that demanded an answer, in order to preserve it as a dream. The wall becomes his stable point of reference, his anchor, both physically and psychologically. As each year brings with it new waves of releases of prisoners, he dares to hope, and seeks refuge in the wall when these hopes are dashed. And, in a small miracle, he finds love with a lawyer from the outside – while in her absence, the wall is his solace and his curse.A testimony of how the most difficult of circumstances can build a person up instead of tearing them down, The Tale of a Wall is an extraordinary record of the vast confinement and power of the mind.

An exhilarating and searing memoir about life as a professional female footballer - and a beautiful examination of the joy and pain of serious athleticsâ ˜Will appeal to readers ready and willing to embrace the deep affinities among the craft and discipline of sportâ ™ TLSIn The Striker and the Clock, Georgia Cloepfil tells the story of her life in football: the triumph, the exhilaration, the deep bonds between teammates, and also the years of self-denial, exile and dedication, in which players try in vain to outpace a clock that ticks down toward an indeterminate ending.Threading between floodlit pitches, sparse dorm rooms, and doctorâ ™s offices, Cloepfil outlines an obsessive pursuit: one that sees her begin each day by touching the ball a thousand times, running sprints alone on empty fields and practicing near-constant visualization and revisualization of triumph and despair. What emerges is a profound meditation on what it is to have a body, and what it is to have the compulsion to push it to do the near impossible; and a love letter to the motivations, joys, pains and desires of a beautiful game. Georgia Cloepfil has written a nimble, breathtaking book about the beautiful game, and about her beautiful, brutal life playing it Louisa Thomas, sports writer for the New Yorker With the deft and determined movements of a seasoned player, Georgia Cloepfil writes about what it means to endure and what it means to leave a sport behind Leanne Shapton

Three Wild Dogs (and the truth) - Markus Zusak
From one of the world s great storytellers and author of The Book Thief, Markus Zusak, this is a tender, motley and exquisitely written memoir about dogs, love and nature. What happens when the Zusaks open their family home to three big, wild, pound-hardened dogs - Reuben, a wolf at your door with a hacksaw; Archer, blond, beautiful, deadly; and the rancorously smiling Frosty, who walks like a rolling thunderstorm? The answer can only be chaos: there are street fights, park fights, public shamings, property trashing, bodily injuries, stomach pumping, purest comedy, shocking tragedy, and carnage that needs to be seen to be believed . . . not to mention the odd police visit at some ungodly hour of the morning. There is a reckoning of shortcomings and failure, a strengthening of will, but most important of all, an explosion of love - and the joy and recognition of family.Three Wild Dogs (and the truth) is the human need for both connection and disorder; but it s also a love letter to the animals who bring hilarity and beauty - but also the visceral truth of the natural world - straight to our doors and into our lives, and change us forever.

An orchard is not a field. It s not a forest or a copse. It couldn t occur naturally; it s definitely cultivated. But an orchard doesn t override the natural order: it enhances it, dresses it up. It demonstrates that man and nature together can - just occasionally - create something more beautiful and (literally) more fruitful than either could alone. The vivid brightness of the laden trees, studded with jewels, stirs some deep race memory and makes the heart leap. Here is bounty, and excitement.

Read then pass it on STYLIST Took my breath away from the first page and did not let go of me till the very last NIKITA GILL There is no singular experience of womanhood and we create the chain to remind ourselves of this. We stand beside each other in such a way that we may say, Tell me your story as a woman, and yours, and yours, and yours . . . One cold January day, Chimene Suleyman walks out of an abortion clinic to find her boyfriend has vanished. Later she watches as her building s CCTV shows him calmly removing his belongings from her home, erasing himself from the life he has destroyed. Then she discovers he has done this before. But this is not his story. Told with breathtaking clarity and tenderness, The Chain is a love letter to the sisterhood that formed despite (and in spite of) a man who deceived dozens of women. Suleyman shows us just how fiercely women shelter and strengthen one another in a society that asks them to sacrifice themselves for men.

Mír v nás - Thich Nhat Hanh
Autor je nejvýznamnějším vietnamským zenovým mistrem, básníkem a bývalým vedoucím buddhistické mírové delegace, zakladatelem Řádu Tiep Hien a Buddhistické university Van Hanh. Po skončení války sdružovaly tyto sbory více než deset tisíc mnichů, mnišek a mladých sociálních pracovníků, kteří pomáhali opravovat rozbombardované vesnice, stavěli školy a nemocnice, pomáhali rodinám bez domova a organizovali zemědělská družstva. Máme-li v sobě mír, jsme-li šťastní, můžeme se usmívat, a každý v naší rodině a v celé společnosti bude mít z našeho úsměvu užitek.
