Marocký profesor Muhammad ‘Ábid al-Džábirí (1935–2010) byl jedním z nejvýznamnějších arabských filosofů současnosti. Je autorem velmi významné Kritiky arabského rozumu, ve čtyřech svazcích (Rozvoj arabského rozumu, 1984; Struktura arabského rozumu, 1986; Arabský politický rozum, 1990; Arabský etický rozum, 2001). Ta je kritikou (ve smyslu analýzy) celé arabské vědecké kultury. Ukazuje meze a originální přínosy arabského myšlení, čímž vyvolává rozsáhlou debatu v akademickém světě i v politice. Kniha, kterou držíte v ruce, je úvodem ke zmíněným čtyřem svazkům. Arabské myšlení se dnes zdá být v napětí mezi fundamentalismem, který chce rekonstruovat současnost podle idealizované minulosti, a dovezeným modernismem, který odmítá tradici. Al-Džábirí odmítá toto falešné napětí a zkoumá tvůrčí filozofickou cestu k arabské modernitě. Jeho progresivní kritika mu umožňuje stanovit principy čtení koncepčních přístupů arabského rozumu. Tato kniha evropskému čtenáři poskytuje klíč pro znovuobjevení kulturního světa, jímž byl západní svět dříve výrazně ovlivněn. Zároveň je příspěvkem k aktuálnímu dialogu mezi evropskými a arabskými perspektivami.

Představuje Kantovo nejdůležitější dílo věnované praktické filosofii, které v úplnosti předkládá teorii morálního zákona známou již ze Základů metafyziky mravů (1785). Obsahuje však rovněž Kantovu definitivní odpověď na otázku metafyziky. Zatímco pojmy Boha a nesmrtelnosti duše zůstávají jakožto pouhé ideje na poli teoretického rozumu bez opory, získávají skrze pojem svobody prokázaný existencí morálního zákona "stálost a objektivní realitu, tj. jejich možnost je dokazována tím, že svoboda je skutečná, neboť tato idea se vyjevuje prostřednictvím morálního zákona". Kritika praktického rozumu takto předkládá jádro Kantem reformovaného pojmu metafyziky, na nějž navázala generace tzv. německého idealismu.

Do svazku byly rovněž zařazeny Kantovy rukopisné poznámky z jeho příručního exempláře prvního vydání Kritiky čistého rozumu.
