Autor často čerpá ze svých osobních zkušeností a věnuje se zejména posledním dnům pevninských křižáckých států, včetně pádu Akkonu v roce 1291 (jeho spis je jediným pramenem, v němž se zachovala očitá svědectví této katastrofy), a podává informace také o období po roce 1291.Dále zmiňuje různé události na Západě, včetně válek Štaufů v Itálii, vzestupu a pádu Šimona z Montfortu v Anglii či nekonečných válek Janova a Benátek ve Středomoří.
