Tyto stránky, které kocour používal dílem jako podložku, dílem jako piják, byly nedopatřením rovněž vytištěny, a tak se ve výsledné podobě díla jakoby omylem prolínají dvě nezávislé dějové linie – satiricky vyznívající autobiografie poněkud samolibého kocoura-literáta a tajuplný příběh, přesněji řečeno fragmenty příběhu, výstředního romantického hrdi¬ny-umělce Johanna Kreislera vystaveného všemožným protivenstvím. Životní názory kocoura Moura jsou tedy polyfonním dílem, svou výstavbou připomínajícím princip hudebního kontrapunktu. Zdánlivě nesouvisející příběhy se totiž ve skutečnosti doplňují, prostupují, jeden v druhém se zrcadlí a vzájemně osvětlují. Právě prolínání obou příběhů činí z četby tohoto „dvojrománu“ nevšední čtenářský požitek. Řečeno slovy překladatele Hanuše Karlacha: „Tyto posuny, zrcadlení, přeskoky jsou zdrojem humoru, který má mnoho poloh, od laskavé úsměvnosti přes ironickou jízlivost až k satirické hořkosti; který však, a to je pro nás podstatné, se realizuje až ve čtenářově mysli, čtenářovou imaginací, která teprve dotváří dílo v komplementární celek a se kterou spisovatel zcela záměrně takto počítá.
