Po válce se snažila zlepšit podmínky nově osvobozených otroků. Timothy Ballard jako bývalý agent CIA, který viděl hrůzy a krveprolití války, založil novodobou podzemní dráhu, která zachránila stovky dětí před úplným zotročením, zneužíváním nebo obchodováním v zemích třetího světa. Součástí příběhu je i záchrana a nakonec i jeho adopce dvou malých sourozenců Mii a Markyho, kteří se narodili na Haiti.
