Po dvaceti pěti letech vychází zcela nový překlad deníku Anne Frankové. Poprvé v češtině s názvem, který svému dílu zamýšlela dát sama jeho autorka. Deník v dopisech si Anne Franková vedla od 12. června 1942 do 1. srpna 1944. Psala si ho jen pro sebe až do chvíle, kdy na jaře 1944 vyslechla z vysílání londýnského Rádia Oranje projev nizozemského exilového ministra školství. Vyzýval, aby lidé po skončení války shromáždili a zveřejnili všechna svědectví o utrpení nizozemského lidu za německé okupace. Jako příklad uvedl mimo jiné deníky. Pod dojmem tohoto projevu se Anne Franková rozhodla, že po válce vydá knihu. Základem k ní měl být její deník. Anne si k tomu 29. března 1944 zapsala: Milá Kitty, včera večer mluvil v Rádiu Oranje ministr Bolkestein o tom, že po válce bude uspořádána sbírka deníků a dopisů z téhle války. Samozřejmě se hned všichni vrhli na můj deník. Vždyť si představ, jak zajímavé by bylo, kdybych vydala román Zadní dům. Už jenom z titulu by lidé měli dojem, že je to detektivka. Od května 1944 začala deník přepracovávat a přepisovat, zanášela do něj opravy, vynechávala pasáže, které nepovažovala za dostatečně zajímavé, a jiné po paměti připisovala. Současně pokračovala v psaní původního deníku (badatelé ho později nazvali verze A - na rozdíl od přepracovaného deníku, který se označuje jako verze B). Poslední zápis Anne Frankové je z 1. srpna 1944. Již 4. srpna všech osm obyvatel úkrytu zatkla tzv. zelená policie. Pomocnice ve skrývání Miep Giesová s Bep Voskuijlovou Anniny zápisky hned v den zatčení odnesly do bezpečí. Miep Giesová je uložila v zásuvce svého psacího stolu, a až když se potvrdilo, že Anne věznění v koncentračním táboře nepřežila, předala je, aniž je četla, Anninu otci Ottovi Frankovi. Otto Frank se po zralé úvaze rozhodl, že splní přání své zemřelé dcery a zápisky vydá knižně. Za tím účelem sestavil z obou Anniných verzí, původní (verze A) a vlastnoručně přepracované (verze B), zkrácenou třetí verzi (C). Aktuálně po celém světě vydávanou, autorizovanou verzi připravila z pověření basilejského Fondu Anne Frankové německá spisovatelka a překladatelka Mirjam Presslerová. Převzala Frankův výběr záznamů z verze C a doplnila jej pasážemi z deníkových verzí A a B. Nový, celkem už třetí překlad deníku do češtiny, pořídila Magda de Bruin Hüblová. Vrací se k názvu, jejž si Anne pro svoji zamýšlenou knihu přála a s nímž vychází deník v nizozemštině. Ke svému pojetí překladu napsala Magda de Bruin Hüblová: "K deníku Anne Frankové lze při překládání přistupovat dvěma způsoby: jako k dokumentu, což vyžaduje co nejpřesnější překlad, nebo jako k literárnímu dílu, což umožňuje jisté uhlazení textu s ohledem na mladé čtenáře. Protože se nový překlad má stát součástí souborného vydání díla Anne Frankové, v němž poprvé v češtině vyjdou i autentické, ,neučesané‘ verze A a B, přiklonila jsem se k první možnosti. Můj překlad tak zachovává víc než předchozí české překlady zvláštnosti předlohy." Annelies Marie FRANKOVÁ (12. června 1929 - únor 1945) v roce 1933 s rodiči a starší sestrou Margot emigrovala z Německa do Amsterodamu. Od července 1942 se tu rodina skrývala v zadní části domu, který patřil otcově firmě, aby unikla pronásledování Židů. Dospívající Anne si psala od 12. června 1942 až do prozrazení úkrytu na začátku srpna 1944 deník. Po zatčení byla rodina deportována do koncentračních táborů v Německu a na území dnešního Polska, přežil jen otec. Anne zahynula v Bergen-Belsenu. Po válce otec Annin deník vydal, byl přeložen do mnoha jazyků, zdramatizován a zfilmován. Toto vydání přináší nový překlad do češtiny.

Po válce otec deník vydal, byl přeložen do mnoha jazyků a zdramatizován. Významný historik Alvin Rosenveld ve své knize The End of the Holocaust (Konec holokaustu) píše, že "prostřednictvím Anne Frankové se s obdobím nacismu nejspíš seznámilo víc lidí než prostřednictvím kterékoliv jiné dobové postavy, snad jen vyjma samotného Hitlera". Rosenveld zkoumá četné faktory, které přispěly k tomu, že se z Anne Frankové stal symbol, jehož význam ani po více než sedmdesáti letech neklesl. Snad proto jsem velmi váhal, když se na mě před třemi lety obrátil Fond Anne Frankové (AFF) z Basileje, abych podle Deníku vytvořil nejen animovaný film, ale převedl ho také do grafické podoby. Hlavně představa grafického deníku mě odrazovala. Když jsem si Deník znovu přečetl - jako dospělý a otec dospívajících dětí -, zasáhl mě i okouzlil: nešlo mi do hlavy, že se třináctiletá dívka dokázala dívat na okolní svět tak zralým, poetickým a lyrickým pohledem a své postřehy převádět na tak výstižné a přemýšlivé záznamy, překypující soucitem i humorem, a projevovat přitom takovou míru sebereflexe, s jakou jsem se jen zřídka setkal u dospělých - a tím méně u dětí. Je to ikonický a jedinečný text a projekt představoval značnou výzvu: kdybychom chtěli převést do grafické podoby celý text, bez vynechání jediného slova, s úctou ke každému písmenku, které Anne napsala, vzniklo by dílo o takových 3 500 stranách a prací na něm bychom strávili dobrých deset let. A navíc by se tím nevyřešil hlavní současný problém: výrazný pokles počtu dětí, které čtou, protože většina z nich podlehla kouzlu obrazovky. Nejtěžším úkolem bylo zachovat zhruba pět procent Annina Deníku a současně se nezpronevěřit jejímu psaní. (z úvodní poznámky Ari Folmana) Český překlad tohoto grafického deníku čerpá důsledněji než anglická předloha z autentického Deníku Anne Frankové. Projevuje se to zejména v replikách (zachovávají věrněji dikci Anne Frankové, jak ji známe z překladu Miroslava Drápala a Michaely Jacobsenové), ale mnohdy i v komentáři. Tam, kde se autoři odchýlili od historických faktů v obrazovém ztvárnění, jsme byli nuceni převzít jejich verzi, aby nevznikl rozpor mezi ilustrací a textem. (Magda de Bruin Hüblová)

The book's copyright in the US was extended in 1967. Anne travels to Avonlea to see Diana Wright and Anne Cordelia. She returns to the old Morgan house, now named 'Ingleside'. The book spans a period of about six years and includes adventures for each of Anne's five children as well as their aunt Mary Maria Blythe. In many of the stories, the Ingleside children are taken in by children who tell lies to seem more interesting. Gilbert has become distant from Anne, and she fears that he may no longer love her. Shirley, the third son of the Blythes, appears in the book but strangely does not receive a solo "spotlight" story of his own.

K písemné pozůstalosti Anne Frankové patří také její takzvaná "Knížka povídek", o níž 7. srpna 1943 ve svém deníku píše: "Před pár týdny jsem začala psát povídku, úplně vymyšlený příběh, a tak se mi to zalíbilo, že se má psaná rodina utěšeně rozrůstá." Ani ne o měsíc později začne "psanou rodinu" přepisovat do zvláštního, velkého sešitu (vlastně do účetní knihy) v pevných deskách. Na první stránku nadepsala: "Povídky a příhody ze zadního domu, vylíčila Anne Franková"; na stejné stránce dole poznamenala: "zasvěcen: čtvrtek 2. září 1943". Jak titul napovídá, jde o dvě kategorie, totiž o "úplně vymyšlené" povídky, a o vyprávění, která popisují příhody ze života v úkrytu. Anne Franková knihu na konci opatřila obsahem, v němž také označila, do které kategorie ten který text patří. Většinu příběhů zřejmě Anne nejprve načrtla na jednotlivé listy papíru a pak teprve přepsala načisto do povídkové knížky, protože se v ní téměř nevyskytují škrtnuté pasáže nebo jiné opravy. Nejranější příběh má datum 8. prosince 1942, což je další příznak toho, že sešit obsahuje načisto přepsané dřívější verze; poslední příběh je datován 12. května 1944. Několik příběhů Anne převzala i do přepsané verze deníku (verze B), její otec Otto Frank jich pak po válce převzal ještě víc do knihy Het Achterhuis (Zadní dům), jejíž první vydání vyšlo roku 1947. Již v roce 1949 bylo zveřejněno osm Anniných povídek pod názvem Weet je nog? Verhalen en sprookjes (Vzpomínáš? Příběhy a pohádky). Značně rozšířená sbírka s názvem Verhalen rondom het Achterhuis (Příběhy o zadním domě) následovala roku 1960. První úplné vydání Anniných povídek vyšlo péčí Joke Kniesmeyerové roku 1982. Nakonec sestavil Gerrold van der Stroom v roce 2001 úplné vydání literárních pokusů založené na Anniných rukopisech a opatřil je předmluvou: Verhaaltjes, en gebeurtenissen uit het Achterhuis / Cady´s leven (Povídky, a příhody ze zadního domu / Cadyin život) (Amsterdam 20053). Pro důkladný výzkum je toto vydání tím pravým pramenem. Tvoří také základ Anniných "povídek a příhod" otištěných v této knize.
