Bude to už deset let, co Vráťa Brabenec, básník, spisovatel, zahradník a bývalý člen legendárních The Plastic People of the Universe, slíbil Bertě pohádku. Jenže místo psaní pohádky koncertoval, psal básně, zahradničil a tak. Berta mezitím vyrostla a na Vráťův slib se zapomnělo. Pak přišla taková ta doba, kdy člověk musel trávit doma víc času, než by si přál a Vráťa začal pořádat kosmický chaos na svém pracovním stole. A ejhle, zjistil, že v nějakých červích dírách svého bytí pohádku přece jen napsal. Dokonce ne jen jednu. Když je člověk čte, zdá se možná lepší, že Bertě už nejsou čtyři roky. Ačkoliv, kdo ví. Vratislav Brabenec, člen legendárních The Plastic People of the Universe, básník, spisovatel a zahradník, čtenářstvu, po dlouhých 26 letech, znovu předkládá svou deliriální prózu Karlín - přístav, tentokrát v česko-anglickém dvojjazyčném provedení. Autorem převodu do angličtiny je starý Vráťův kumpán z Toronta, Josef Vykydal (pro čtenáře Brabencových próz nikoliv neznámá postava). Sepsáno jedné noci roku 1981 v šíleném období probíhající akce Asanace, po brutálním výslechu a následném pokusu o uklidnění se rumem. Vzdouvající se a klesající tok Vltavy, nespoutaná imaginace, karlínské hospody - lze to vyjádřit jinak než česky? Posuďte sami.

Když I. M. Jirous nemohl z důvodu úmrtí pokračovat v psaní textů pro Divadelní noviny, zkusili oslovit Vráťu Brabence. A vyšlo najevo, že takový kratší, většinou jednostránkový, formát nejlépe vyhovuje jeho vypravěčskému stylu. Po prvním sborníku s názvem Podoby, vrhá se Brabenec vstříc trhu s dalším souborem textů, tentokrát pojmenovaném příznačně Trdliště. Vyzrálejší, vtipnější, moudřejší, smutnější, přesto stále stejný vypravěč Vráťa dokáže popsat setkání s lesy, zvířaty i lidmi v Kanadě právě tak poutavě, jako cestu do vršovické večerky pro placku rumu. Opět s ilustracemi Richarda Pechy.

S tátou žádnou smlouvu nesjednávala a prostě mu oznámila: - Tati, napíšeš mi pohádku a v ní budou - Vráťa, vlci, princezna, drak, potravní řetězec, dalajláma, rytíř, všechny možný zvířata, les, bohové a babička, co umřela, než jsem se narodila. A já, samozřejmě. Táta to splácal dohromady, přečetl Bertě a hotovo. Jenže cesty vlčí jsou nevyzpytatelný. Po pár letech Babeta přečetla pohádku synovi Brunovi a tomu se líbila.
