The stunning Dracula special edition features sprayed edges, color end pages, a built-in ribbon bookmark, and embossed foil cover. The beautiful design and attention to detail set this special edition book apart, whether you’re reading for the first time or building a library of your favorite classic literature books. As fledgling English lawyer Jonathan Harker treks into the Carpathian Mountains to complete a real estate transaction, frightened peasants warn him of horrible dangers that await him. Harker, terrified by eerie events along the way, finally meets his client, Count Dracula, a tall, gaunt old man with a surprisingly powerful handshake. Harker soon realizes that he is a prisoner in Dracula's sumptuously furnished castle—a castle strangely devoid of mirrors. Later, as fifty coffin-sized boxes are brought into the castle in preparation for Dracula's departure, Harker knows that the count plans to do more in London than see the sights—and he fears that the rational modern world is ill-equipped to recognize, let alone defeat, the count. First published in 1897, Dracula by Bram Stoker has become a seminal work in the genre of Gothic horror and the foundation of modern vampire mythology. The novel is set largely in England and Transylvania, weaving a chilling narrative through the experiences of its characters as they encounter Count Dracula, whose ambitions to spread his undead curse create a battle for survival. Stoker's novel explores themes of superstition versus science, modernity confronting ancient evils, and the complex interplay of sexuality, fear, and power. The character of Dracula embodies the timeless fear of the unknown and the other, making the novel a profound commentary on the anxieties of Stoker’s time—fears of societal infiltration and moral decay. Dracula resonates with contemporary audiences for its deep psychological undercurrents and as a critique of invasion and cultural contamination. The enduring legacy of Dracula in popular culture is seen in the myriad adaptations and the continued fascination with vampire lore, reflecting ongoing debates about otherness and identity in today’s globalized world.

Bram Stoker's peerless tale of desperate battle against a powerful, ancient vampireWhen Jonathan Harker visits Transylvania to help Count Dracula purchase a London house, he makes horrifying discoveries in his client's castle. Darkness - Bram Stoker, Edward Frederic Benson - audiokniha

Audiokniha: Nine steps have led us to the final stage – right into the heart of the Darkness. Aptly enough, the iconic author from Ireland is on the doorstep; Bram Stoker – and with his Dracula to boot. Well, wait a second – not exactly, to be honest. Dracula’s Guest is one of the stories published only after Stoker’s death, and even though Dracula is in the title, he will not make it into the story. Interestingly enough, Jonathan Harker, the actual guest – also does not appear. This short story is actually an original introduction to Dracula. It is a slightly altered version of a chapter of the novel that was discarded during preparations for print. The final story is The Room in the Tower, by Edward Frederic Benson. Strange, unsettling atmosphere is present right from the beginning, and it intensifies via recurrent nightmares – right up to the shocking climax of the final scene. As in all previous audiobooks, actors’ performances and music make for a perfect mix, combining to take you on the horror ride promised by the cover.

Love from the Dark Side - Bram Stoker, Mary Elizabeth Pennová - audiokniha

Audiokniha: The ninth step into the Darkness is called Love from the Dark Side, and it brings us to the climax of the series – the Darkness itself. It features The Tenant of the Cedars by Mary Elizabeth Penn – a story about the vengeance of the dead. Little is known of the author other than the fact that she was published in magazines in the late Victorian era. Her stories were long forgotten until being rediscovered in 1999 – over 100 years since the last of them was published in 1897. On the other hand, Bram Stoker (author of the famed novel, Dracula) is a legend in the horror world. This collection features Stoker’s short story, A Dream of Red Hands. The theme is crime and punishment, seasoned with a hint of redemption. Once again – excellent voices, stunning music, and great graphical design result in an exquisite mixture of emotions.

Sounds in the Dark - Bram Stoker, Howard P. Lovecraft - audiokniha

Audiokniha: The third step into the Darkness is called Sounds in the Dark. It begins with a short story written in 1921 by American master horror writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft called The Music of Erich Zann. The author himself considered the story to be one of his masterpieces, and it is often deservedly included in various horror-story collections. The second short story was written by Bram Stoker. Indeed, THAT Stoker who wrote the epistolary novel Dracula – the very first novel that dealt with a vampire legend. The Judge’s House (written in 1914) completes the collection, and its strongest point is building the atmosphere of fear, which is underlined by excellent voices and music.

Dracula & Dracula's Guest - Bram Stoker

Dracula: Introduction and Notes by Dr David Rogers, Kingston University. 'There he lay looking as if youth had been half-renewed, for the white hair and moustache were changed to dark iron-grey, the cheeks were fuller, and the white skin seemed ruby-red underneath; the mouth was redder than ever, for on the lips were gouts of fresh blood, which trickled from the corners of the mouth and ran over the chin and neck. Even the deep, burning eyes seemed set amongst the swollen flesh, for the lids and pouches underneath were bloated. It seemed as if the whole awful creature were simply gorged with blood; he lay like a filthy leech, exhausted with his repletion.'Thus Bram Stoker, one of the greatest exponents of the supernatural narrative, describes the demonic subject of his chilling masterpiece Dracula, a truly iconic and unsettling tale of vampirism. Dracula's Guest & Other Stories: Edited and Introduced by David Stuart Davies. The above is followed with a rich collection of Stoker's macabre tales including Dracula's Guest (which was omitted from the final version of Dracula); a devilishly dangerous haunted room in The Judge's House; a fatalistic tragedy in The Burial of the Rats; a terror of revenge from beyond the grave in The Secret of Growing Gold, and a surprising twist in the tail in The Gypsy's Prophecy.Other strange and frightening episodes provide a feast of terror for those readers who like to be unnerved as well as entertained.

Dracula - Bram Stoker

''it was butcher work...the horrid screeching as the stake drove home; the plunging of writhing form, and lips of bloody foam''Bram Stoker''s 1897 Gothic shocker introduced Count Dracula to the world, an ancient creature bent on bringing his contagion to London, the very heart of the British Empire. Only a handful of men and women stand between Dracula and his long-cherished goal, but they are vulnerable and weak against the cunning and supernatural powers of the Count and his legions. As the horrifying story unfolds in the diaries and letters of young Jonathan Harker, Lucy, Mina, and Dr Seward, Dracula will be victorious unless his nemesis Professor Van Helsing can persuade them that monsters still lurk in the era of electric light. The most famous of all vampire stories, Dracula is a mirror of its age, its underlying themes of race, religion, science, superstition, and sexuality never far from the surface. A compelling read, rattling along at break-neck speed, it is a modern classic. This new edition includes Stoker''s companion piece, ''Dracula''s Guest''. Temnota - Bram Stoker, Edward Frederic Benson - audiokniha

Audiokniha: Po devíti krocích jsme dospěli ke konci – přímo do srdce Temnoty.

O lásce a dalších citech - Bram Stoker, Mary Elizabeth Pennová - audiokniha

Audiokniha: Devátý krok k temnotě s názvem O lásce a dalších citech nás přenese do finále celé série – do samotné temnoty. V Nájemnici chaty pod cedry vystupují Petr Šmíd, William Valerián, Pavel Nový a Jiří Dvořák. To Bram Stoker je o poznání známější figurou hororového žánru. Ano, právě on je autorem proslaveného románu v dopisech s názvem Drákula. Zde přichází se Snem o rudých rukou, kde rozpracovává nesmrtelné téma zločinu a trestu a přidává ještě špetku navíc – vykoupení. Krátký, leč hutný Sen o rudých rukou (v dřívějším překladu také Sen o červených rukách) čte Petr Šmíd.

Temné síly: Zapomenutá švédská verze Draculy - Bram Stoker

„Temné síly představují jeden z největších objevů v dlouhé historii draculovského příběhu...“ píše ve své předmluvě John E. Browning, expert v oblasti hororového a upírského žánru.

The Burial of the Rats - Bram Stoker

I knew the site of the hut and the hill behind it up which I had rushed, and in the flickering glow the eyes of the rats still shone with a sort of phosphorescence. Beyond the genre-defining influence of Dracula, Bram Stoker was also a master of the short story form. This new collection of the author’s tales represents his diverse interests in the macabre and uncanny, ranging from the hallucinatory and dreamlike in ‘The Shadow Builder’ and ‘In the Valley of the Shadow’ to the more overtly horrifying in the mini- masterpieces of ‘The Judge’s House’ and ‘The Burial of the Rats’. Alongside acknowledged classics of the horror short story canon, this new volume also includes obscurities such as the darkly comic ‘Old Hoggen: A Mystery’ and the morbid fairy tale ‘The Castle of the King’ to reflect the full brilliance of the legendary writer.
