První díl nesoucí název Hledání subsaharských identit v románové tvorbě je komentovanou antologií třinácti úryvků z románů napsaných jedenácti subsaharskými frankofonními autory mezi léty 1954 a 2009. Vybraná díla, odehrávající se v různých prostředích a odlišných obdobích, spojují témata hledání kořenů, kulturní alienace a vypořádávání se s koloniálním dědictvím. Autoři těchto románů jsou kritiky a literárními historiky považováni za klasiky subsaharských frankofonních literatur. Antologii předchází šest esejů, které vysvětlují na příkladech dalších děl subsaharských autorů stejného období stále aktuální problematické aspekty těchto literatur a zasazují je do historického kontextu. Jedná se především o koloniální politiku asimilace a její důsledky, užívání francouzského jazyka a opomíjení afrických jazyků na území bývalých kolonií či rozdíl mezi francouzským a frankofonním autorem.
