Kolektivní monografie dává nahlédnout do způsobu řešení menšinové otázky v Československu a Maďarsku v letech 1918-1939. Kolektiv maďarských a českých historiků přináší kritickou analýzu meziválečné menšinové politiky v obou zemích. Objasňuje etnopolitické následky rozpadu habsburské monarchie a zdůrazňuje iluzornost snah vytvořit etnicky čisté národní státy v multietnickém středoevropském prostoru. Pozornost je soustředěna na koncepce národní politiky jak ve vztahu k minoritám, tak ve vnější národní politice a politické propagandě. Řešení národní problematiky je zkoumáno z pohledu významných osobností i v celkovém kontextu meziválečných středoevropských etnických problémů. Předkládaný ediční svazek, doplněný historickým i edičním úvodem, anglickým resumé i jmenným rejstříkem, sleduje politiku strany a její naplňování v rámci původních stranických programových tezí.

Činnost Národní jednoty severočeské pokračovala i po válce (v době první republiky), jelikož podle skutečných poměrů v zemi nebylo možné považovat národnostní otázku za uzavřenou. Spolek po dobu několika desetiletí podporoval českou menšinu v převážně německých oblastech, a to například tím, že pomáhal živnostníkům, organizoval množství kulturních akcí, byl činný v menšinovém školství a vydával vlastní časopis Hraničář. Autorka analyzuje činnost tohoto spolku v různých oblastech, jako je politika, školství a kulturní aktivity. Zkoumá také jeho vztah k německým nacionálním spolkům.
