Píše se rok 1863 a v Mexiku pokračuje válka s Francií. Koncem dubna vyráží z Vera Cruzu do Puebla francouzský konvoj, složený z 64 vozů a několika desítek mul, který veze pro obléhající francouzské vojáky zásoby munice, potravin, ošacení, léků, ale především tři milióny franků ve zlatě k vyplacení žoldu. Mexický plukovník Milan se od svých zvědů o tomto konvoji dozvídá a rozhodne se ho zmocnit. K dispozici má přes dva tisíce mužů, nejprve však musí zlikvidovat malou doprovodnou skupinku kapitána Danjoua, která je vyslaná k obraně tohoto tolik cenného konvoje a která se skládá jen ze 65 mužů cizinecké legie, naprosto zdecimovaných od tropických horeček, úplavice a žluté zimnice.Jejich zbraně se zkříží 30. dubna 1863, kdy se opuštěný statek v Camerone stává scénou epického boje. Legionáři zde zůstávají obklíčeni a izolováni jako v pasti na myši. Milan si myslí, že k porážce Francouzů mu stačí jen 15 minut, ale legionáři byli veterány z těch nejhorších evropských bojišť a měli tak obrovské zkušenosti, disciplínu a výcvik, zatímco jeho muži ještě před nedávnem orali svá pole a do boje proti francouzským vetřelcům šli většinou jen s mačetami v rukou. Kapitán Danjou dostává možnost se vzdát se ctí, ale raději posílá své muže do nerovného boje proti třicetinásobné přesile s jasným cílem - ochránit francouzský konvoj. Bitva u Camerone je historiky označována za nejstatečnější bitvu všech dob: muži kapitána Danjoua vytvářejí legendu a všemi opovrhovaná cizinecká legie je náhle považována za elitní jednotku.

Texty jsou doplněny fotografiemi. The Proceedings include contributions from the 26th Symposium of the ICTM Study group on Ethnochoreology. These texts deal with two themes: 1. Dance, Gender, and Meaning, 2. Contemporizing Traditional Dance. They bring various points of view, examples and conceptual frames for understanding dance in connection with these two topics. The authors are researchers from all around the world, looking at dance from many perspectives, but with the common theoretical background, formed by the ethnochoreology, ethnology and dance anthropology.
