Dramatický životní příběh první ženy v historii naší armády, která dosáhla nejvyšší vojenské hodnosti - plukovnice v záloze. Válečné zkušenosti získala již v letech 1937-1938 jako příslušnice čs. lazaretu J. A. Komenského během občanské války ve Španělsku. Po nacistické okupaci republiky unikla ilegálně do Polska a později do Sovětského svazu. Jako jedna z prvních se v roce 1942 přihlásila do nově vznikající čs. vojenské jednotky v Buzuluku. Sloužila jako lékárnice 1. čs. samostatné brigády, zúčastnila se všech bojů od Kyjeva přes Duklu až po osvobození Slovenska. Patřila také mezi první čs. ženy, kterým byla v roce 1944 propůjčena důstojnická hodnost. V padesátých letech byla na základě vykonstruovaných obvinění zatčena a více než dva roky vězněna. Nezatrpkla však a po své rehabilitaci patřila jako významná a respektovaná odbojářka mezi aktivní členy Čs. svazu protifašistických bojovníků. Miroslav Brož (1948) Autor se již vice než 50 let věnuje historii čs. zahraničních jednotek v letech druhé světové války, především na východní frontě. Dlouhá léta měl také možnost osobně se setkávat s řadou významných osobností českého a slovenského vojenského odboje, například s Air Marshalem RAF a divizním generálem Karlem Janouškem (v té době degradovaným na vojína v záloze), Hrdinou SSSR generálmajorem Richardem Tesaříkem, armádními generály Karlem Klapálkem a Ludvíkem Svobodou, také s bývalými bojovníky interbrigád ze Španělska - Rudolfem Šimáčkem, Oldřichem Hakenem, Aloisem Soběslavským, Františkem Krieglem - či s mnoha dalšími příslušníky naší zahraniční armády, ať již ze SSSR, Západu nebo Středního východu. Jejich válečné osudy autor systematicky přiblížil ve více publikacích (například Hrdinové od Sokolova, Válečné dokumenty vypovídají), v desítkách článků i na mnoha výstavách.
