Všichni autoři byli pravověrnými komunisty, které trpká deziluze přivedla k odklonu od jejich ideologie; všichni o tomto zvratu napsali emotivní svědectví. Příběhy všech těchto čtyř knih a jejich autorů zasazuje John V.
