Přestože vystřídala řadu zaměstnání (byla například šéfkuchařkou), v současnosti se již plně věnuje literatuře. Je autorkou osmi bestsellerů č. 1 podle The New York Times. Její knihy vyšly ve 40 zemích a získaly řadu ocenění (např. New England Prize for Fiction). Píše také eseje, články a recenze, které se objevily v mnoha periodicích (např. The New York Times a NYT Book Review, Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, LitHub, Poets Writers). V češtině jí v roce 2013 vyšel román Vlak naděje. Hana Briešťanská se narodila 5. 8. 1979 v Kyjově. Od dětství zpívala v cimbálcové muzice, chodila do sboru, do skautu a hrála na klavír. Vystudovala VOŠ, obor dramatické umění, moderování, dabing v Praze - Michli, pod pedagogickým vedením Niny Divíškové a Pavla Pecháčka. Z pražských studií se vydala objevovat Horácké divadlo Jihlava (2000 - 2008), Městské divadlo Brno (2008 – 2009), Slezské divadlo Opava (2009 - 2010), Městské divadlo Zlín (2010 - 2014), od r. 2014 působí v Národním divadle Brno. Spolupracuje s divadly v ČR i SR.V roce 2016 jí byla udělena Cena Thálie za nejlepší ženský výkon v oboru činohra za roli Štěpky Kiliánové v inscenaci Petrolejové lampy. V současnosti září v bláznivé komedii Brněnské metro v roli operní divy, které je „prostě trochu moc“, na prknech Národního divadla Brno (NdB) na scéně Reduty.
