Tím prvním je autorčino přesvědčení o vrcholné kvalitě, kterou má české divadlo ukryto v dramatické tvorbě Karla Čapka - a ze které přitom netěží, ze které se netěší, kterou se nepyšní. Která jako by byla ukryta tak dobře, že o ní snad ani neví. Druhý podnět představuje pak přesvědčení o akutní celospolečenské potřebě vědomí národní kultury jako součásti kulturní ekologie, k jehož posílení v dnešní době - z tohoto hlediska spíše krušné - chce kniha také přispět. V tomto smyslu si přeje být i příspěvkem k budování kulturního kánonu jako zásadně důležitého předpokladu dorozumění v rámci každého společenství. Nebezpečí, které vyplývá z jeho absence, je evidentní a týká se samotné existence kultury - jejíž úroveň souvisí přímo s úrovní života tohoto společenství i ve smyslu jeho sebe-vědomí (a pak samozřejmě i sebevědomí). Je zřejmé, že bez kritického osvojování dědictví minulých generací není takové sebe-vědomí (a sebevědomí) vůbec myslitelné. A je také zřejmé, že podmínkou skutečně kritického osvojování je vnímavost k tomu, čím k nám promlouvá naše dědictví a (také) co nám zabraňují postřehnout naše předsudky, které souvisejí s mentalitou orientovanou pouze k současným ‘módním trendům - v jejichž rámci se (kupodivu?) starým předsudkům tak daří.
