Mladí bývají neklidní. S Natálií Kocábovou (1984) tomu nebylo jinak: prvotina v osmnácti, ve třiadvaceti pět knížek. K tomu sex, drogy a rock'n'roll. Kdysi jsem o ní napsal do Respektu: Rychle napsat, rychle vydat - a další. Natálie rychle psala, rychle vydávala, ale pak se začala "propisovat": s druhou knihou poezie (Někdo je v domě) a třetí prózou (Růže) došla sobě nadosah. Tempo zvolnilo, ohlasy a stylizace zčásti opadaly, křeč vzpoury proti všemu metamorfovala v jedinečné chvíle údivu a pokory. Změnily se "stravovací návyky": lehké maso postmoderny, kterým Natálie krmila agresivní vnějškovost svého psaní, vystřídal krvavý biftek vlastního života. Snění a fantazie vypověděly službu krátkodechým účelům a sblížily se s realitou. Iracionální se umazalo o konkrétní. Historické fotografie Prahy jsou využívány jako ilustrační a dokumentární materiál v mnoha publikacích a jejich výběry či edice patří na knižním trhu k nejoblíbenějším. Kniha Nejstarší fotografie Prahy si ale vytkla vyšší cíl. Nemíří na sentiment čtenářů ani na nostalgii zašlých časů, předmětem zkoumání se stala sama fotografie a okolnosti jejího vzniku. Autorky knihy se rozhodly systematicky podchytit co nejširší spektrum fotografické produkce nejstaršího období, včetně jejích zvláštností a velikého počtu zajímavých snímků, které se dosud nikdy do popularizačních výběrů nedostaly. Teprve v šíři celkového pohledu lze pochopit, jak se technické médium fotografie ve svých počátcích rozvíjelo a jaká byla Praha v době, kdy její první snímky vznikaly. K naplnění tohoto vydavatelského záměru se spojily kurátorky tří pražských veřejných sbírek historických fotografií, Muzea hlavního města Prahy, Archivu hlavního města Prahy a Ústavu dějin umění AV ČR za spolupráce dalších institucí z Prahy a Vídně. Výsledkem několikaleté práce se stala monumentální odborná obrazová publikace, která zobrazuje více než 700 snímků Prahy vzniklých v prvních dvaceti letech existence fotografie. Textové pasáže uvádějí čtenáře do kontextu počátků fotografie, popisují průkopnické snažení prvních fotografů i Prahu, kterou se rozhodli fotografovat. Pražské veduty provedené grafickými technikami podávají již více než pět set let průběžnou zprávu o vzhledu města, o jeho urbanistickém a architektonickém vývoji. Patří k základním pramenům práce historiků, uměnovědců a architektů. Jsou předmětem nejenom vědeckého zkoumání, ale i sběratelství a obdivu milovníků umění. Pokusy o jejich souborné zpracování probíhají již od konce 18. století. Míra zpracování souborů vedut z jednotlivých období je však rozdílná. Důvodem je téměř geometrickou řadou vzrůstající počet grafickými technikami vytvořených pohledů na město a jeho části v průběhu staletí a tím i narůstající obtíže spojené s jejich komplexním "podchycením" a zpracováním. Podrobný soupis pražských vedut ze 16. a 17. století, opřený o sbírkové fondy Muzea hl. m. Prahy, Archivu hl. m. Prahy, ale i Národního muzea v Praze, Národní galerie a Královské kanonie premonstrátů na Strahově (část byla ještě tehdy umístěna v Památníku národního písemnictví) vyšel v roce 2002. Předkládaný soupis na něj v mnohém navazuje a představuje odborné veřejnosti, ale i zájemcům o historii grafické pohledy na město z 18. století. Jeho složení je však poněkud jiné, což je dáno postupnou proměnou pojetí městské veduty v průběhu tohoto století. Publikace je věnována pohledům na Prahu a její jednotlivé části. Kromě přehodnocení práce hlavních představitelů (Mathesius, Vančura a další) a posuzování vývoje na literaturu orientovaných pražských studií angličtiny a s ohledem na pražský strukturalismus, se kniha zaměří na metodologické problémy oboru v souvislosti s transformací humanistické a stejně tak moderní filologie, hledání souvislostí mezi dvěma historicky odlišnými interdisciplinárními projekty: humanistickou filologií a strukturalistickou sémiologií. In quest of the unpublished manuscript of a martyred Yiddish writer, the American novelist Nathan Zuckerman travels to Soviet-occupied Prague in the mid-1970s. There, in a nation straightjacketed by totalitarian Communism, he discovers a literary predicament, marked by institutionalised oppression, that is rather different from his own. He also discovers, among the oppressed writers with whom he quickly becomes embroiled in a series of bizarre and poignant adventures, an appealingly perverse kind of heroism.
