Odborná publikace navazuje na předchozí monografie Zkušenost exilu (2017) a Příběhy exilu (2018), které byly výsledkem práce na výzkumném projektu, který probíhal v letech 2016-2018 v Památníku národního písemnictví za účasti badatelů z dalších institucí, především ze Slovanského ústavu AV ČR, Slovanské knihovny v Praze, Divadelního ústavu AV ČR a Univerzity Karlovy.
