Byl založen na půdě univerzity roku 1832 americkým obchodníkem, pedagogem a politikem Williamem Huntingtonem Russellem, jehož předkem byl Noadiah Russell, spoluzakladatel univerzity. Členem spolku se může stát pouze student čtvrtého ročníku navržený již stávajícím členem.
