Co má společného Friedrich Nietzsche, C. G. Jung a Joseph Goebbels? Telepatie, nevysvětlitelné náhody, překrývání nebo spíše splývání jednotlivých postav, to jsou síly, které ženou příběh vpřed a znovu a znovu čtenáře překvapují. V závěru románu pak do sebe jednotlivé kousky zapadají jako části mozaiky, anebo spíše "puzzle” v původním anglickém smyslu tohoto slova. Andrew Crumey (1961) je vzděláním fyzik. Vystudoval University of St Andrews, později úspěšně obhájil disertaci v oblasti teoretické fyziky na londýnské Imperial College. Debutoval v roce 1994 románem Hudba v cizím jazyce o zvláštním a složitém vztahu mezi fyzikem a historikem odehrávajícím se - podobně jako Schrödingerova velryba - v alternativním fikčním světě, v němž se Británie nachází v totalitním režimu. Následovaly romány Pfitz (1995), D'Alembertův princip (1996), Pan Mee (2000), Schrödingerova velryba (Möbius Dick, 2004), Sputnik Caledonia (2008) a Tajné vědění (2013). Andrew Crumey nějakou dobu působil jako literární redaktor listu Scotland on Sunday, aktuálně vede kurzy tvůrčího psaní na Northumbrijské univerzitě.
