Rozprávková zbierka Súmrak dňa (Under the Sunset) vyšla po prvý raz v roku 1881. Niektoré z poviedok sa už predtým objavili v literárnom časopise pre dospievajúcu mládež The Boy's Own Paper, ale pre knižné vydanie boli čiastočne upravené a zjemnené. Slovenský preklad vychádza z pôvodných verzií, ktoré majú oveľa hororovejší charakter a niektorí viktoriánski literárni kritici ich dokonca označili za nevhodné pre deti. "Necenzurovaný" text, ktorý je doslova prešpikovaný množstvom fantazijných a nonsensových prvkov, nám tak umožňuje vnímať autora najslávnejšieho "upírskeho" románu aj ako spoluzakladateľa žánru fantasy.
