2x mistři klasického hororu (Klenot sedmi hvězd / Carmilla) - Bram Stoker, Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu - e-kniha

eBook: V tajemném Údolí kouzelníka, kam se obávají vkročit i otrlí beduíni, spí v nepřístupné hrobce královna Tera, panovnice z thébské dynastie.

Vďaka ôsmim fantazijným poviedkam z pera slávneho írskeho dramatika a spisovateľa Brama Stokera (1847 - 1912) ju teraz môžeme navštíviť aj my a spoznať nástrahy, ktorým musia obyvatelia tejto nezvyčajnej krajiny čeliť. Ako všetky dobré rozprávky majú aj tieto príbehy mravoučný charakter, no autor ikonického románu Dracula ich navyše zaplnil množstvom hrôzostrašných situácií a krvilačných bytostí. Nie je v nich teda núdza o roztrieštené lebky, potoky krvi, hnijúce mŕtvoly, či zlovoľných duchov, neľútostných obrov, zákerné obludy i dobrotivých strážnych anjelov. Rozprávková zbierka Súmrak dňa (Under the Sunset) vyšla po prvý raz v roku 1881.

Dracula (anglicky) - Bram Stoker

Introduction and Notes by Dr David Rogers, Kingston University. 'There he lay looking as if youth had been half-renewed, for the white hair and moustache were changed to dark iron-grey, the cheeks were fuller, and the white skin seemed ruby-red underneath; the mouth was redder than ever, for on the lips were gouts of fresh blood, which trickled from the corners of the mouth and ran over the chin and neck. Even the deep, burning eyes seemed set amongst the swollen flesh, for the lids and pouches underneath were bloated. It seemed as if the whole awful creature were simply gorged with blood; he lay like a filthy leech, exhausted with his repletion.' Thus Bram Stoker, one of the greatest exponents of the supernatural narrative, describes the demonic subject of his chilling masterpiece Dracula, a truly iconic and unsettling tale of vampirism.

Dracula (Collins Classics) - Bram Stoker

HarperCollins is proud to present its new range of best-loved, essential classics.‘We are in Transylvania; and Transylvania is not England. Our ways are not your ways, and there shall be to you many strange things.’Earnest and naive solicitor Jonathan Harker travels to Transylvania to organise the estate of the infamous Count Dracula at his crumbling castle in the ominous Carpathian Mountains. Through notes and diary entries, Harker keeps track of the horrors and terrors that beset him at the castle, telling his fiancé Mina of the Count’s supernatural powers and his own imprisonment. Although Harker eventually manages to escape and reunite with Mina, his experiences have led to a mental breakdown of sorts.Meanwhile in England, Mina’s friend Lucy has been bitten and begins to turn into a vampire. With the help of Professor Van Helsing, a previous suitor of Lucy’s, Seward, and Lucy’s fiancé Holmwood attempt to thwart Count Dracula and his attempts on Lucy and consequently Mina’s life.Arguably the most enduring Gothic novel of the 19th Century, Bram Stoker’s Dracula is as chilling today in its depiction of the vampire world and its exploration of Victorian values as it was at its time of publication.

Prízrak tajomnej ženy v pohrebnom rubáši unášaný vlnami Jadranského mora v plavidle podobnom truhle... Román Dracula Brama Stokera není třeba dlouze představovat, slyšel o něm snad každý: právě v něm se totiž v dokonalé podobě zrodil moderní mýtus upíra. Darkness - Bram Stoker, Edward Frederic Benson - audiokniha

Audiokniha: Nine steps have led us to the final stage – right into the heart of the Darkness. Aptly enough, the iconic author from Ireland is on the doorstep; Bram Stoker – and with his Dracula to boot. Well, wait a second – not exactly, to be honest. Dracula’s Guest is one of the stories published only after Stoker’s death, and even though Dracula is in the title, he will not make it into the story. Interestingly enough, Jonathan Harker, the actual guest – also does not appear. This short story is actually an original introduction to Dracula. It is a slightly altered version of a chapter of the novel that was discarded during preparations for print. The final story is The Room in the Tower, by Edward Frederic Benson. Strange, unsettling atmosphere is present right from the beginning, and it intensifies via recurrent nightmares – right up to the shocking climax of the final scene. As in all previous audiobooks, actors’ performances and music make for a perfect mix, combining to take you on the horror ride promised by the cover.

Temnota - Bram Stoker, Edward Frederic Benson - audiokniha

Audiokniha: Po devíti krocích jsme dospěli ke konci – přímo do srdce Temnoty.

Longing - Bram Stoker, Howard P. Lovecraft - audiokniha

Audiokniha: The sixth step into the Darkness is called Longing, and it features a single short story; a very distinctive one indeed. It is a relatively short masterpiece by Howard Phillips Lovecraft, the author who is a pillar of our series. The Outsider is one of his most often published short stories, and it has proven to be very popular with both readers and listeners. Written in 1921, it was published five years later in Weird Tales magazine (April 1926). Lovecraft himself thought that he came near to Poe’s style in this story (the first paragraphs are an echo of Berenice, by E. A. Poe, and the inspiration of, The Masque of Red Death is also pretty clear). This short story is probably the most elaborate story by Lovecraft, with echoes of his gurus and multifaceted references. The atmosphere is emphasized by actors’ performances, music, and the graphics on the cover.

Dracul - J. D. Barker, Dacre Stoker - e-kniha

Času není nazbyt a on narychlo sepisuje znepokojivé události, které ho sem přivedly. Vypráví děsivý příběh o dětství v Dublinu, častých nemocech, záhadné chůvě, o lidech, kteří údajně zemřeli, a přesto žijí, o pověrách, z nichž se náhle stala realita.

Planes of Existence - Bram Stoker, Howard P. Lovecraft - audiokniha

Audiokniha: The fifth step into the Darkness is called Planes of Existence, and it is a solo ride by the feature author of the whole series in three parts. In them, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, practically unread and unknown during his life, but a source of inspiration after his death thanks to friends and devoted fans, deals with the clash of two worlds – the reality and “beyond”. Beyond the Wall of Sleep is a short story from 1919 based on the innovative (at that time) idea of using psychology for explaining real-life issues. Incidentally, a near namesake song (Behind the Wall of Sleep) appeared on the debut album of Black Sabbath, and it should come as no surprise that it was inspired by this short story. The second story, From Beyond (written in 1920, published in 1934), hovers around the theme of a mad scientist willing to peek beyond reality. It inspired a few films, songs by death-metal bands, and it even features in the PC game, Half-Life. The last story of the trio is The Transition of Juan Romero, from 1919, originally written for a limited circle of friends and published after Lovecraft’s death. The feature “character” is a mysterious evil encountered in an ancient ritual to the Mexican deity, Huitzilopochtli. All three short stories are dense with dramatic build-up, thanks to superb performances by the actors and highly atmospheric music. Original graphics on the cover complete the package.

Sounds in the Dark - Bram Stoker, Howard P. Lovecraft - audiokniha

Audiokniha: The third step into the Darkness is called Sounds in the Dark. It begins with a short story written in 1921 by American master horror writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft called The Music of Erich Zann. The author himself considered the story to be one of his masterpieces, and it is often deservedly included in various horror-story collections. The second short story was written by Bram Stoker. Indeed, THAT Stoker who wrote the epistolary novel Dracula – the very first novel that dealt with a vampire legend. The Judge’s House (written in 1914) completes the collection, and its strongest point is building the atmosphere of fear, which is underlined by excellent voices and music.

O lásce a dalších citech - Bram Stoker, Mary Elizabeth Pennová - audiokniha

Audiokniha: Devátý krok k temnotě s názvem O lásce a dalších citech nás přenese do finále celé série – do samotné temnoty. V Nájemnici chaty pod cedry vystupují Petr Šmíd, William Valerián, Pavel Nový a Jiří Dvořák. To Bram Stoker je o poznání známější figurou hororového žánru. Ano, právě on je autorem proslaveného románu v dopisech s názvem Drákula. Zde přichází se Snem o rudých rukou, kde rozpracovává nesmrtelné téma zločinu a trestu a přidává ještě špetku navíc – vykoupení. Krátký, leč hutný Sen o rudých rukou (v dřívějším překladu také Sen o červených rukách) čte Petr Šmíd.

Love from the Dark Side - Bram Stoker, Mary Elizabeth Pennová - audiokniha

Audiokniha: The ninth step into the Darkness is called Love from the Dark Side, and it brings us to the climax of the series – the Darkness itself. It features The Tenant of the Cedars by Mary Elizabeth Penn – a story about the vengeance of the dead. Little is known of the author other than the fact that she was published in magazines in the late Victorian era. Her stories were long forgotten until being rediscovered in 1999 – over 100 years since the last of them was published in 1897. On the other hand, Bram Stoker (author of the famed novel, Dracula) is a legend in the horror world. This collection features Stoker’s short story, A Dream of Red Hands. The theme is crime and punishment, seasoned with a hint of redemption. Once again – excellent voices, stunning music, and great graphical design result in an exquisite mixture of emotions.
