Bratislavský rodák Karl Benyovszky bol v tridsiatych rokoch 20. storočia veľkým popularizátorom a obdivovateľom mesta. O Bratislave a okolí napísal niekoľko príťažlivých kníh. Železná studnička vďačí za svoje meno železitému prameňu, ktorý tu vyviera. Údolie sa rozprestiera na hornom konci Vydrickej doliny. Pri rieke Vydrici, ktorá preteká pôvabnou dolinou, sa už pred stáročiami usadili mlynári a postavili si tu mlyny. V 19. storočí sa Železná studnička stala obľúbeným výletným miestom obyvateľov neďalekého Prešporka. Chýr o liečivých účinkoch železitej vody lákal návštevníkov zo širokého okolia. Podnikaví prešporskí mešťania tu preto vybudovali kúpeľný dom s reštauráciou. Zašlú slávu kedysi hojne navštevovaných miest pripomínajú už len zrúcaniny starých mlynov a množstvo dobových pohľadníc. Karl Benyovszky sa narodil 4. júla 1886 v centre Prešporka, na nároží terajšieho Hviezdoslavovho námestia a Mostovej ulice. Benyovszky, syn policajného úradníka, prežil v dome s výhľadom na Mestské divadlo a kostolík kláštora Notre Dame celé detstvo. Navštevoval maďarské školy, ale nemčinu stále považoval za svoj materinský jazyk. Po I. svetovej vojne ho v Budapešti odsúdili za protimonarchistické názory. Roku 1924 sa vrátil do Bratislavy, kde žil až do roku 1945. Pôsobil v redakcii Pressburger Zeitung, neskôr v Grenzbote. Intenzívne sa zaoberal históriou mesta, napísal knihu o dejinách mestského divadla, rozsiahle dielo o živote J. N. Hummela. Po slovensky vyšli jeho knihy Prechádzka starým Prešporkom, Malebné zákutia a dvory starého Prešporka, Obrázky z prešporského geta, Tajuplné povesti zo starého Prešporka, Považie – hrady, zámky, povesti a Železná studnička. Po násilnom vysťahovaní Nemcov z Československa žil v Rakúsku, kde 6. januára 1962 zomrel.
