K písemné pozůstalosti Anne Frankové patří také její takzvaná "Knížka povídek", o níž 7. srpna 1943 ve svém deníku píše: "Před pár týdny jsem začala psát povídku, úplně vymyšlený příběh, a tak se mi to zalíbilo, že se má psaná rodina utěšeně rozrůstá." Ani ne o měsíc později začne "psanou rodinu" přepisovat do zvláštního, velkého sešitu (vlastně do účetní knihy) v pevných deskách. Na první stránku nadepsala: "Povídky a příhody ze zadního domu, vylíčila Anne Franková"; na stejné stránce dole poznamenala: "zasvěcen: čtvrtek 2. září 1943". Jak titul napovídá, jde o dvě kategorie, totiž o "úplně vymyšlené" povídky, a o vyprávění, která popisují příhody ze života v úkrytu. Anne Franková knihu na konci opatřila obsahem, v němž také označila, do které kategorie ten který text patří. Většinu příběhů zřejmě Anne nejprve načrtla na jednotlivé listy papíru a pak teprve přepsala načisto do povídkové knížky, protože se v ní téměř nevyskytují škrtnuté pasáže nebo jiné opravy. Nejranější příběh má datum 8. prosince 1942, což je další příznak toho, že sešit obsahuje načisto přepsané dřívější verze; poslední příběh je datován 12. května 1944.
