Kniha je založena na narativní analýze životních biografií potomků Vietnamců žijících v Česku. Ukazuje, že životy těchto mladých lidí se odehrávají na pozadí tzv. transnacionálního sociálního prostoru, který se rozprostírá mezi dvěma geografickými regiony - Vietnamem a Českou republikou. Díky tomu jsou vystavováni souboru sociálních očekávání, kulturních hodnot a vzorců lidské interakce utvářených více než jedním politickým, ekonomickým a sociálním systémem. Popisuje také, jak tito lidé prostřednictvím mnohonásobně propojených sociálních sítí a vztahů proměňují kulturní praktiky, interpretace, zkušenosti a identity, čímž nabourávají představu jednoty identity, kultury a místa.
