Pátek 1. září 1939: sedmnáctiletý Richard Freiherr von Rosen poslouchá v rádiu Hitlerův projev v Reichstagu o útoku na Polsko. Není válkou nijak nadšený, ale jako mnoho jeho vrstevníků jej naplňuje pocit povinnosti a touha osvědčit se. Brzy poté se hlásí k tankovým jednotkám, kde se chce věnovat kariéře důstojníka v aktivní službě. Přání se mu plní v říjnu 1940 povolávacím rozkazem k 35. tankovému pluku rozmístěnému v Bambergu. Po náročném základním výcviku a intenzivním kurzu důstojnických čekatelů se mladý branec nyní připravuje ve Francii a v Porýní na nadcházející nasazení do války. V hodnosti důstojníka aspiranta je koncem dubna 1941 konečně se svým 35. tankovým plukem přeložen na poznaňské cvičiště Warthelager. Dne 22. června 1941 začíná pro von Rosena jako střelce tanku Panzer III operací Barbarossa válka proti Sovětskému svazu. Je nasazen jako součást 4. tankové divize a skupiny armád Mitte a svůj křest ohněm prožívá v těžkém boji svého pluku u Starého Bychova a o něco později je raněn. Po uzdravení a přeložení k 502. pluku těžkých tanků bojuje od ledna 1943 v tanku Tiger nejprve v Kalmycké stepi. Ještě tentýž rok se von Rosen účastní nyní jako poručík a velitel družstva 3. roty 503. praporu Tigerů operace Citadela, největší tankové bitvy druhé světové války. V létě 1944 je převelen na invazní frontu, kde má wehrmacht zastavit postup četných tankových jednotek Spojenců. Ovšem zkušený tankista na sobě brzy nelítostně pocítí převahu nepřítele ve vzduchu. Po přezbrojení svého praporu v Sennelageru je převelen nyní jako velitel roty a velitel jednoho z Königstigerů (Tiger II) na drolící se frontu v Maďarsku. Tam utrpí začátkem roku 1945 své páté zranění a konec války zažívá doma. Generálmajor Richard Freiherr von Rosen udělal po válce kariéru v Bundeswehru a v NATO. Jeho vyprávění napsané na základě deníkových zápisků podává podrobný obrázek tankové války na východní i západní frontě. Kniha je doplněna četnými fotografiemi.

Quickly, he becomes a celebrity but faces more and more problems. Eventually, he gets crucified again, this time in the 21st century and in a "civilized" manner: shot dead treacherously from behind. It makes faith in God more human through the faith in positive values of human life, such as the truth, honor or attempts to act justly and do good - something people are not capable of anymore.
