Autorka neužije nikde slovo deprese. To, oč zde jde, je vykreslit naprosto autenticky a naléhavě to, co člověk trpící depresemi prožívá. Co cítí, jaké má představy. Při pohledu zvenčí jde o výjevy děsivé. Přitom vidíme a cítíme, že kresba, kreslení, je pro autorku východiskem z pasti, cestou ke ztvárnění vlastních vnitřních pocitů a k osvobození. Kniha klade velmi naléhavé otázky. Ptá se po kořenech bolesti a smyslu utrpení. Texty z němčiny do češtiny přeložil Tomáš Kafka, současný český velvyslanec ve Spolkové republice Německo. Jde o knihu nejen působivou a výtvarně zdařilou, ale i o svazek velmi potřebný a naléhavý. Kniha jedinečným způsobem vypovídá o bolesti, která je společná všem lidem: Němcům i Čechům, mladým i starým, ukazuje, co máme společného, a především - oslovuje velmi mladou čtenářskou generaci a vede ji ke vzájemnému porozumění; v tom je tato kniha jedinečná. Román Black Box Blues přináší fascinující svědectví dívky, která se statečně potýká s démony nejistoty o sobě samé současně se zamlžením jistot o povaze světa. Zjitřená citlivost mládí nás přivádí k poznání naléhavé problematičnosti, která je lidským údělem. Zjišťujeme, že "není jen černá a bílá. A to mezi nimi nemusí být jen šedivé". Čtenář je hluboce vděčný, že společně s autorkou může vstoupit do jejího vnitřního světa a dotýkat se křehké hranice mezi dospíváním a duševní poruchou. Stačí malá podpora, aby u mladičké Ambry Durante probudila potřebu tvorby, která se stává nástrojem nalézání smyslu a zdrojem síly pokračovat dál.
