Jejich obsahem byla řada připomínek k naší tehdejší politice, které Milan Syruček přímo tlumočil tehdejšímu našemu prezidentovi Gustávu Husákovi a které proto mohly přispět k řešení řady problémů ve vzájemných vztazích. Za to byl třikrát pozván k oficiální návštěvě Francie. Tak mohl poznávat i mentalitu Francouzů, což se odrazilo i v této knize, která není jen životopisnou studií francouzského prezidenta, ale pro čtenáře objevuje tuto zemi a její obyvatele s mnoha u nás málo známých úhlů pohledu.
