Here, Ibn al-Qayyim also debates at length whether the punishment of Hellfire will be eternal or whether it will come to an end. He favours the latter position in accordance with the Qur anic verse 107 of the Chapter Hud and because of God s mercy.

Pokud je mi známo, je překlad do češtiny prvním překladem tohoto díla z arabštiny do jiného jazyka. A to i přes skutečnost, že toto dílo je historicky i teologicky významným artefaktem islámské civilizace a umožňuje nám jiný, alternativní pohled na to, jaké představy a názory mohl mít zakladatel islámu Mohammed a jeho nejvěrnější okolí; pohled, jenž je v rozporu s oficiální dogmatikou a výkladem historie prosazovanými dnes největším muslimským teologickým směrem zvaným obecně sunnitská ortodoxie.Skupina muslimů označující se jako sunnité (tj. sunnitská ortodoxie), přesněji Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Džamaa (Lid tradice a společenství), u nás mnohdy všeobecně nesprávně označovaná jako muslimská ortodoxie, je dnes největší skupinou muslimů a dělí se na mnoho podskupin. Jedním z dogmat sunnitů je, že islámští racionalisté (arabsky zvaní mutazilci) se svým učením odchýlili od původního islámu, a to z důvodu, že měli přijmout řeckou filozofii. Podle těchto „ortodoxních“ muslimů je tak mutazilský směr islámu sektou odchýlenou od islámu. Tento pohled přijali i mnozí evropští orientalisté.Nejspíše je tomu tak proto, že sunnitští teologové a aktivisté od chvíle, kdy jejich výklad islámu se stal státní ideologií islámské říše – chalífátu, dělali vše proto, aby zničili nejen knihy a představitele konkurenčních výkladů a interpretací islámu, ale hlavně veškeré důkazy, jež by mohly zpochybnit dogmatiku a interpretaci islámu v podání Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Džamaa. A toto trvá dodnes – například teroristická organizace Islámský stát a její snaha zničit knihovny a památky, jež nesouzní s jejich pojetím islámu, je toho zářným příkladem.Jak ovšem můžete vidět, ve výkladu islámské historie a dogmatiky zvítězil postoj sunnitské ortodoxie, který označuje mutazilce za zbloudilce, inovátory a muslimy, kteří se nechali svést řeckou filozofií a křesťany a přijali neislámské myšlenky. Jenže právě spis ?abaqat al-Mutazila popisující historii mutazily nám ukazuje odlišný popis historie, který naopak poukazuje na to, že myšlenky mutazily nejsou převzaty z řecké filozofie či od křesťanů a židů, ale jsou to původní myšlenky arabské, nejspíše i původní myšlenky zakladatele islámu Mohammeda, které nejspíše převzal Wasil ibn Ata od rodiny zakladatele islámu Mohammeda, u které se Wasil ibn Ata vzdělával v islámu a jeho podstatě. Jak píše autor tohoto spisu:„Řetězec tradentů mutazilitského madhabu je nad úsvit jasnější, vždyť se váže k Wásilovi a Amrovi zřejmým a dobře známým poutem. Vždyť to byl Muhammad, kdo vychoval Wásila a učil ho, dokud nebyl připraven a neosvojil si potřebné znalosti. A Muhammad zase přebíral od svého otce Alího bin abí Táliba – mír s nimi –, a ten zase od Posla Božího – nechť mu i jeho rodu Bůh žehná a dá jim mír.“Mutazilité prohráli svůj zápas s ideology směru Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Džamaa nejspíše i z praktických důvodů. Jako zastánci absolutní lidské svobody totiž odmítali přijmout nespravedlivou tyranskou vládu chalífů, kteří uchopili moc po zavraždění Mohammedova bratrance – a čtvrtého chalífy, Alího. Mutazilité tak odmítali nespravedlivou tyranii umajjovské dynastie a poté i dynastie abbasovské. Naopak teologové Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Džamaa prosazovali poslušnost nespravedlivé tyranské vládě chalífů, a to výměnou za to, že tito chalífové jim jejich postoj opláceli nastolením výkladu islámu v podání teologa Ahl al-Sunna wa al-Džamaa jako jediného pravověrného v muslimské říši.Snad vám tato kniha pomůže lépe pochopit islám a jeho složitou myšlenkovou strukturu, která je dnes již mnohdy velmi odlišná od myšlení současného člověka evropské křesťansko-antické civilizace.

Idris al-Shafi i, born in the year 150AH/767AD, to establish the principles by which the various legal doctrines could be synthesised into a coherent system. In the Risala, which laid down the basis for such a synthesis, al-Shafi i established the overriding authority, next only to the Qur an, of the Sunnah or example of the Prophet Muhammad as transmitted in the traditions.Professor Majid Khadduri has done an admirable service in making this valuable work available in English. His excellent translation uses not only the original manuscripts of Ibn Jama a and al-Rabi, found at Dar al-Kutub, the National Library in Cairo, but also authoritative editions published earlier in this century, namely the Bulaq and Shakir editions. In his introduction, Professor Khadduri outlines the historical background of the Risala and gives a biography of al-Imam al-Shafi i as well as annotated, detailed summaries of the composition, structure, substance and argument of the text. He also includes a list of transmitters of traditions, a glossary of the most important Islamic legal terms and a select bibliography. For this new edition, the index has been expanded and a small corrigenda added.

A Dance with Her Myth revisits the legend of ZeusÂ’ abduction of the Phoenician princess Europa. Zeus took the form of a white bull in order to carry Europa away.
