Román čítá celkem šestnáct kapitol, z nichž první čtyři, nezměny, jsou Vianovy. Nedílnou součástí knihy jsou "učené vysvětlivky", které jsou již plně dílem spolku L'Oulipo a v nichž se jednotliví autoři vyřádí v brilantním intelektuálním humoru, kdy se pokoušejí vysvětlit nevysvětlitelné, nebo naopak složitě popisují zcela triviální pitomost.
