V roce 1972 začal Jan Švankmajer pracovat na projektu svého imaginativního Bilderlexikonu. V té době to byl ovšem akt čirého zoufalství, neboť bylo zřejmé, že projekt v plném rozsahu nebude moci nikdy realizovat. Po roce usilovného střihání obrazových podkladů a lepení koláží si uvědomil, že vytvořit jakýsi adekvátní imaginativní odraz Brockhausu nebo Meyers Konversations-Lexikonu je úkol nejen nad jeho síly, ale i nad možnosti doby. Sestavit Bilderlexikon alternativního světa by byla práce na celý život a nejen pro jednoho člověka. V roce 2022 jsme se rozhodli vydat alespoň torzo této plánované knihy a pokusili se sehnat veškeré, mnohdy technicky zcela nekvalitní, většinou již dostupné podklady… Než ale stačila tato kniha vyjít, svět se převrátil. Ale možná, že se nepřevrátil, jen se jeho chod urychlil. Miliony běženců už jsou tady, jenže z jiného konce světa, než se čekalo. Všechny ekologické plány na záchranu planety jdou stranou. Zelený "Deal" padl. Zelenou naopak znovu dostaly uhlí a atom. Místo záchrany planety tu máme opět závody ve zbrojení.

Karel Brožek náležel k legendární skupině absolventů nově zřízené Katedry loutkářství DAMU přelomu 50. a 60. let - společně s Jurajem Herzem, Jiřím Srncem, Janem Švankmajerem ad.
