Metafora sama současně přestala být výsostnou doménou básnického světa a aktualizace jazykových forem a přesunula se v celé šíři do sféry běžné komunikace. Současně se ukázala podstatná role metafory také v nejazykových oborech: v teorii poznání, estetice, kulturní antropologii, sociologii, psychologii ad. Metafora je podle autorů prvotním konceptem organizace světa, myšlení i sebe sama.
