Audiokniha: Z komentáře k původnímu LP albu 0 18 0760 Erasmus Rotterdamský Chvála bláznivosti vydanému v Supraphonu v roce 1969 a nyní vycházejícímu poprvé digitálně: ...Erasmus se narodil asi roku 1469 v Rotterdamu. Již v mládí si neobyčejnou pílí osvojil bohatství myšlenek starých řeckých a římských autorů, a to byl především fond jeho hlubokých a rozsáhlých vědomostí..Roku 1496 se vydal na pařížskou universitu, ale tamní theologové ho svými scholastickými metodami nemohli uspokojit. Získal tam však mnoho oddaných přátel, zejména z Anglie, a na jejich prosby se rozhodl Anglii navštívit. Svou učeností a družnou, veselou povahou si opět rozmnožil počet přátel a příznivců a trvalou přízeň si získal i u samotného královského dvora okouzloval celé okolí. Stejný obdiv pak sklízel v Holandsku a ve Francii. Roku 1506 uviděl Itálii, po níž tak horoucně toužil. V Turíně se stal doktorem theologie. Navštívil i jiná universitní místa, až svou studijní cestu zakončil v Římě. S otevřenou náručí ho přijali nejen kardinálové, ale i sám papež Julius II. Po třech letech se vrátil do Anglie, kde byl právě povolán na trůn Jindřich VIII., Erasmovi zvláště nakloněný. Obnovil opět přátelské vztahy s učenými anglickými humanisty, především s Tomášem Mórem, jemuž věnoval svou nesmrtelnou Chválu bláznivosti... ...Chvála bláznivosti (Márias enkómion) vznikla roku 1509 cestou při Erasmově návratu z Itálie do Anglie. Sám autor o tom říká ve věnování Mórovi: Když jsem se v nedávných dnech vracel z Itálie do Anglie, nechtělo se mi promarnit celý ten čas...v jalovém tlachání , jež je tak protivné Múzám...Dostal jsem nápad, abych složil žertovnou chvalořeč na Bláznivost...Předpokládal jsem, že tato hříčka mé vtipnosti přijde ti obzvlášť vhod, poněvadž máš značné zalíbení - nemýlím-li se - v takovýchto a podobných žertech, mají-li ovšem ducha a vtip; jakož vůbec k celému lidskému životu se stavíš takříkajíc "s úsměvem Démokritovým". Ačkoliv totiž na jedné straně tvůj geniální duch tě staví nesmírně vysoko nad průměrnost ostatních lidí, přece na druhé straně úžasná roztomilost tvé povahy a tvá ochota ti umožňují, že dovedeš s každým jednat jako prostý člověk a to zcela nenuceně...Čtenář už na těchto několika řádcích pozná, jaký byl Erasmus skvělý stylista - a vyčte z nich i jeho krásné vlastnosti. Ty všechno prostupují i jeho pověstné dílko, které bylo v takové oblibě, že za jeho života vyšlo sedmadvacetkrát. Předně mějme na mysli, že slova bláznivost, bláznění, blázen mají u Erasma nesmírně široký význam. Jsou v nich zahrnuty všechny lidské chyby, slabůstky, pošetilosti, všechna směšná přání, marná pachtění, úskočná jednání, domýšlivosti, panovačnost, obmyslnost, zlé taškářství, zloba, vášně, chtíče atd.; Erasmus si bere na mušku lidské stavy, a to nejen duchovenstvo, vojáky, mocnosti světské i církevní, ale i suché intelektuály, jejich studené trudnomyslné duše, které nedovedou náležitě užívat vzácného koření, totiž vtipu, smíchu a rozkoše v nejširším smyslu. A což teprve jak šlehá školometské kritiky, literáty a literární historiky i hašteřivé mudrlanty! Přes všechnu ostrost a jízlivost je však Erasmův ironický výsměch lidský, nepovýšenecký, neurážlivý, smířlivý, odpouštějící. Právem si však položil referent v LN otázku, jak je možné, že Chvála bláznivosti spatřila světlo světa za církevní i světské cenzury - vždyť papež a vatikánští jemnostpáni jsou tu líčeni jako tlupa darebáků a dočasní vládcové světa jakbysmet! Erasmus nepředpokládal, že svým kouzelným dílkem převychová lidstvo. Ale dokázal aspoň jednu věc dokonale: že nemůže být nikdy milován člověk, jehož kožená nehybná tvář se neumí rozveselit smíchem a že je k ničemu i morous, který si čas od času nedovede zabláznit. Humor a vtip je kořením života a smysl pro něj je znakem velkorysosti. A kdo tuto velkorysost nemá, stává se žlučovitým tyranem sobě i svému okolí - a proto právě jemu platí Erasmův výsměch.
